This article is very poor. It works ok as a summary of David Letterman top ten lists but as the text on that states, he only started HIS lists because such lists were already very common in the media.

Wikipedia should have a more comprehensive article on the concept of "top 10 lists" and the history of such lists. I wonder if anyone knows about this subject, if it's quite a modern invention or if you'd find St. Augustine listing the top 10 reasons to reject the devil or that sort of thing. Anyway, Dave hardly invented them.


Agree! Top Ten lists redirects to this page, but this page is only about letterman.... annoying
