Her age[edit]

There are questions over her birth year as discussed in the Talk-page archive for this article. The cite that was here to a search page for the Federal Bureau of Prisons had nothing for a African-American Kimberly Jones, and nothing for Kimberly Denise Jones or Kimberly D. Jones. And Wikipedia guidelines disallow us, in any case, to link to a search page.

There is, in fact, an entire VH1 article here specifically saying that journalistic sources disagree on her age. ("How Old Is Lil’ Kim, Exactly?" by Bené Viera, July 11, 2012). An excerpt (with reliable sources boldfaced):

Her bios on Billboard, TV Guide, Yahoo Movies and Starpulse corroborate Wikipedia’s 1975 birth [at the time the article was written] On the other hand, AOL Music’s bio page for the BK rapper is in line with IMDB’s 1974. In 2005, MSNBC wrote, “Lil’ Kim, who turns 30 next week…” which would again make this a happy 37th birthday. And People.com in 2003 referred to her as a then 28-year-old making her 37 today [and not 39 until July 11, 2014].

The best example of how to approach this is Mariah Carey. Choosing one RS over another is POV unless we have definitive evidence such as a birth record. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:02, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

NJ Voter Registration has her as born in 1974. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.12.88.237 (talk) 17:08, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

That would be a great footnote. Do you have a link for that citation? --Tenebrae (talk) 22:57, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi, I am able to find her in the Federal Bureau of Prisoners inmate locator (http://www.bop.gov/inmateloc/). Her BOP register number is 56198-054. Melonkelon (talk) 06:07, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Her drivers license says she was born July 11, 1979. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nilablack (talkcontribs) 01:39, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

There was considerable publicity around the release of her baby's photo on what was said to be her fortieth birthday, 11 July 2014. 31.55.60.218 (talk) 10:42, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Lil' Kim's date of birth is 11th July 1976, which means she is 39 years old.

If you watch the youtube link above and go to the 1:50 mark, her mother states her date of birth.

  • Sources differ on this, with the most reliable sources (various government records) stating that her birth year is 1974, but many journalistic sources stating 1975. It's quite possible that the artist is deliberately obscuring her age to appear younger. Given the situation, a direct quote from her mother is not worth including a third possible birth date/age in the article. See previous talk discussion at the top of this page and in the archives. If anyone disagrees, feel free to discuss here. Thanks for making the edit request, though, it was definitely worth bringing up. ~ RobTalk 13:08, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Leaving home[edit]

This article says her father expelled her from the home. However, the future Lil' Kim ran away from home to escape her father's abuse. She shunned her father for many years, but reluctantly let him stay at one of her homes, as he has Alzeimer's disease. Here's one article:

Genre[edit]

Under Genre, it says Hip-Hop, but she frequently records music in other genres as well. Specifically R&B and Reggae. Should it be updated since other rappers have multiple genres written on their pages too? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.69.126.12 (talk) 16:20, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

== Don't Undo Kim's age == They lied about her during her career because she was under-age. her mom was keeping the lie going.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8ATKtR23wE her mother confirms her age at the 1:55 mark. She is 39 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frost412 (talkcontribs) 22:20, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

That's one source, and family may not always tell the truth. The same issue came up at Mariah Carey, where documented sources like a driver's license and a high school transcript give a different year than what Carey's mother gives. Celebrities fudge their ages all the time. I've restored the article to what the RS citations say, so per WP:BRD, the next step is to discuss the issue on the talk page and reach a consensus for change. It generally starts informally and can go to a formal WP:RfC. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:12, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

DURING HER INTERVIEW WITH BOOM BASH THIS MONTH, SHE STATED THAT SHE WAS AROUND THE AGE OF 17 WHEN SHE WAS IN THE JUNIOR MAFIA'S PLAYERS ANTHEM VIDEO, RELEASED IN 1995. WHICH MAKES HER 36 NOW NOT 40 NOR 41. IT IS DISREPECTFUL TO HER AND HER FANS TO CONTINOUSLY POST FALSE INFO AND MAKING HER OLDER THAN WHAT SHE IS. STOP RELYING ON OTHER ARTICLES, WRITTEN BY PEOPLE, AND TAKEN KIM'S WORD. SHE WAS BORN JULY 11,1979 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nique79 (talkcontribs) 23:53, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Sources ranging from the federal government to such respected music periodicals as Billboard say completely otherwise. Examine the cited sources in the article.--Tenebrae (talk) 20:22, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

Lil Kim[edit]

I wish whoever did this make adjustments or let me do it. Lil Kim was born in 1976 her mother has stated this, her dad didnt kick her out she left the house because they would fight, he was very strict. Lil Kim has taken so many good pictures this year please take what i have said in consideration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KyKy92 (talkcontribs) 00:23, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Plastic surgery[edit]

...isn't mentioned anywhere in the article. Really? Are we pretending this hasn't happened???? --RThompson82 (talk) 22:49, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

It's just as easy to add content to an article, as it is to add content to a talk page. Feel free to add whatever you want about her change of appearance (ie. she has become caucasian). It should be easy, there are currently reliable sources all over the net about this. Spacecowboy420 (talk) 11:05, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Birth year is 1974[edit]

After having looked through the sources and footnotes in the article (many of which are now dead links), I feel it's safe to list her birthdate as July 11, 1974. The Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locater lists her at 42 years of age (her # is 56198-054, and her release date is listed as August 2, 2006, which coincides with her sentence). I also did a search on familysearch.org, which lists her D.O.B. as July 11, 1974, as well as multiple New York and New Jersey addresses; her parents, Linwood L. Jones and Ruby M. Jones are listed as relatives. These are public records, and trump any bio pages from VH1 or other fluff sources that list 1975. --Drown Soda (talk) 02:09, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Lil' Kim was born on July 11th 1976. This was confirmed by her mother on her VH1 TV show called 'Driven'. You will be able to find the video on YouTube.141.92.129.43 (talk) 15:13, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

As discussed above, this is not a reliable source. There are too many contradictions. Karst (talk) 15:21, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Controversies[edit]

Can someone clean up the typos in those paragraphs? There are some spaces & quotation marks missing. 63.92.248.121 (talk) 03:32, 27 August 2016 (UTC) Darwin

I did two reverts that inserted a lot of unverified material into that section. I would be good to have a discussion on what has merit with reliable sources there and what would be trivial. Karst (talk) 11:14, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
