Significance of entry[edit]

Please describe why a list of professional American Football regular season games prior to Monday Night Football is important or significant. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:35, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

To show that the concept of "Monday Night Football" did not originate in 1970. User talk: Histmaven 2:51, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
It is significant, and informative. Please keep this page. --Nick Dillinger 02:44, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
To someone outside of American culture, this has to seem like one of the lamest topics in the history of Wikipedia. However, the World Cup is almost impenetrable to most Americans, so this is just illustrative of cultural differences. This is a very U.S.-centric article, but its significance is that Monday Night Football is a staple of not just American sports culture but American popular culture. It was known that despite this relatively-vast repetory of past experience, that Commissioner Pete Rozelle had considerable trepidation about MNF, thinking that NFL football had done fairly poorly as prime-time entertaiment in the past. Most current-day Americans are totally aware that a cultural staple of recent years had a pre-1970 existence on some level. Rlquall 03:31, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps salvageable, but if the point is that "the concept of 'Monday Night Football' did not originate in 1970," then it takes but a sentence, not a list. Personally, I think Monday Night Football history section is way too long, but I'm not sure that forking off decades into new articles would work either. (However, doing so would give this a place.) It needs to be an article, not a list. And, the title needs to be changed to something that indicates NFL and not say, any other sport, board/card game or game show played on Monday night before 1970. —Twigboy 18:04, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
What about moving the article to Monday night professional American football games before 1970? The title might be a bit long, but it fits the scope of the article better than the current title.--Highway99 01:13, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Error in game list[edit]

The list included a game from 1926, noted as being played on 11/8/1926 between the NY Giants and the LA Buccaneers. Not sure of the source for this claim, but a search of the NY Times archives shows no reference to a game on that date. The Giants played the Cardinals a day earlier, and the Buccaneers played at Providence on Sunday. While it wouldn't have been uncommon for a team in that era to play two games in a weekend, there's no evidence that this particular game ever happened. The Giants and Buccaneers did play the following week, but both the LA Times and NY Times report the date as Sunday 11/14/1926. See these two sources for a list of games by the two teams. [1] [2].
