Transmonkification[edit]

In a recent deletion discussion on one of the episode articles (it is up for deletion as plot summaries tend to fail WP:IINFO#1), it was suggested to link to monk.wikia.com instead. For example Mr. Monk Goes to the Bank on Monk, an external wiki created by the code {{wikia|monk|Monk|Mr. Monk Goes to the Bank}}. I would see no particular problem in adding links on every remaining listed episode. (talk) 08:25, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing we would do this to the titles to the charts on the individual seasons? That sounds good. Kevinbrogers (talk) 15:59, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought, when I tested it, it really started to clutter up the tables. This may have been what you intended in the first place, but what about linking to an article page (on Wikipedia) and then redirecting to the Monk wiki? Kevinbrogers (talk) 16:06, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A redirect off-wiki will not work. I suggest you directly link to monk.wikia rather than using the template, this would avoid the descriptive text. (talk) 16:10, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Sounds good. I'll get on that pretty soon. Kevinbrogers (talk) 16:15, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be better to link to the actual USA Network page for that particular episode? They have one for all 125. For example, here, here, and here. Kevinbrogers (talk) 16:24, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, I am not sure. You might run into problems with WP:NOTDIRECTORY if you start mass linking to a commercial website (usanetwork being owned by NBC) even if this is the definitive website. The primary non-commercial fansite is less problematic. To make sure this avoids being challenged at a later date, any possible type of mass-cross-linking might need to have a documented local consensus so that even if you prefer the definitive commercial site to a non-commercial alternative, you have a reason to invoke Wikipedia:Ignore all rules. If you have never proposed a Request for comment, whatever you think is the best way forward might make a suitable question to ask the wider community before you start. RfC: Mass Linking to Commercial Sites[edit]

Due to discussions at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mr. Monk Goes to the Carnival and at Talk:List of Monk episodes#Transmonkification, I am currently linking all episode titles of Monk to external sites. I think they should be linked to the official episode guide on the official website, but I've been advised that mass linking to commercial websites might be frowned upon. Each page contains a plot description, a photo gallery, and a list of guest stars and crew members. Would it be better to link there, or to articles at the Monk Wiki? Kevinbrogers (talk) 16:51, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I would object to this. We should write encyclopedic information about the episodes here, not link externally to them en masse. I would see nothing wrong with using the official episode guide as a reference to the on-wiki summary of each episode. But abusing external links is a no-no. Okay. This was a possibility brought up on some other page, which now sounds a bit ridiculous. Kevinbrogers (talk) 03:56, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Closed on this basis. (talk) 06:56, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

No secondary sources whatsoever. Was "kept" (ha!) in AFD because some slobbering fanboys love the episode. Apparently WP:ILIKEIT spam is enough to keep. I'll have none of that. Let's just merge the damn thing because it clearly won't be built up. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 22:39, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't wind-up the lovely fanboys, I'd rather not see unnecessary polarization of discussion. Thanks, (talk) 23:11, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Monk episode guide[edit]

The listings for the writers and directors are mixed up. I know this because several episodes list up to 4 'directors'. I have never heard of Anything being directed by 4 people at once. I also know the listings are mixed up because I watch the reruns on Hallmark every weekday. Sunsplash777 (talk) 03:40, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
