"Jesuit educated"[edit]

If Murdoch is from Nova Scotia, where did he get his "Jesuit" education which resulted in him being fluent in French? Is this explained? --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 02:36, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Invasion[edit]

Season 12, episode 6 is about an invasion of Earth by an alien species, containing elements from a number of SF films. It is successful with everyone being taken over, by a species that wants to kill mankind. It was a one off episode, which is then forgotten afterwards.(185.239.56.147 (talk) 12:59, 7 February 2021 (UTC))[reply]

Typo needs correcting[edit]

Terrance Meyers (minor recurring character) should be Terrence. Checked against closing credits, Series 6, Episode 1 (Murdoch Air). Someone kindly sent me instructions for making my own edits but I'm not quite ready to try! 2600:1017:B827:D3FA:0:3B:FDB3:6C01 (talk) 20:30, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. Also did some sprucing up for the section in general. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:57, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I should have seen that sooner. https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2441122891 and other links on CBC.ca. There are three entries with the "a", but they seem to be an exception. Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:49, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I was a word processor for 40 years so I notice typos! And these days there are a million ways to spell names anyway. A kid I went to school with spelled it Terence, just 1 "r." And I wish I had a nickel for every Patty who became Patti as soon as she aged into wanting to be cool.

I also wish someone would add the Mimico Newsomes to the recurring character bios. I ♥️ Cyrus Lane! 2600:1017:B801:2BF8:0:64:25C8:8701 (talk) 00:12, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Constable Hodge[edit]

Finally screwed my courage to the sticking place and edited something. Though it hurt my heart to put the commas and periods outside the quotation marks. 2600:1017:B8A9:59EE:0:23:34A1:B301 (talk) 02:11, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Questions and Suggestions[edit]

I've been doing a bit of binge-watching and am curious about the way this list article is organized. Many recurring characters should be here but aren't - Violet Hart, Chief Constable Davis, John Brackenreid, Allen Clegg, Edna Brooks & Simon, various Mimico Newsomes. And the Hotel Detective, whose name escapes me for the moment. I'd move Jackson, Giles and Terrence Meyers from Minor to Major and list the Pendricks separately.

And if this were my list, I'd rethink the categories for all but the Main Characters - e.g., list all the law-enforcement folks together, maybe a category for family members and significant others, list all the historical characters together, etc.

I've gone on a bit! If there's a more appropriate venue for such conversations, I'd appreciate a link. 2600:1017:B8A9:59EE:0:23:34A1:B301 (talk) 02:47, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You're in the right place; it's just the listicle doesn't see too many edits. As far as re-designating some minor characters as major goes, I'm a little hesitant if they're no longer in the show, and they're not expected to return. Categorising supporting/recurring characters by occupation sounds like a good idea.
And you're thinking of Ralph Fellows, hotel detective. Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 03:18, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Add 2 Historical Characters[edit]

I'd like to add Emma Goldman and Thomas Longboat to the list but there are articles on both of them that would need to be linked to and I'm not quite ready for that. Besides which, I've only seen through Season 12 so don't know if either appears later. 2600:1017:B8A9:59EE:0:23:34A1:B301 (talk) 03:54, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Added Goldman with link and it works! Will do Longboat later if nobody else does. Might be nice to flag characters from Canadian history in some way for the benefit of non-Canadian fans. Longboat and Tom Thomson are probably familiar to Canadians but this New Yorker had never heard of them. It never occurred to me, either, that George Lyon the insurance guy or "Fanshaw" the Empire Club guy might be anything other than creations of the writers. 2600:1017:B822:9FD9:0:4E:27B:4901 (talk) 22:29, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say that if they're characters that are modelled after actual historical figures a link to an available Wikipedia article would be useful. I don't believe there's a need to do so for original characters as most people would assume them to be fictional unless told otherwise. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:59, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Added Longboat with link. 2600:1017:B822:9FD9:0:4E:27B:4901 (talk) 21:07, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please forgive me if this is a duplicate - I tried to say this earlier somewhere but touchscreens and I don't get along well and I'm pretty sure my query disappeared. My trouble is, I tend to assume that EVERY historical character I don't recognize (e.g. George Lyon) is fictional unless it's glaringly obvious he/she existed (e.g. Laurier). Any chance you could recommend a good general history of Canada for an ignorant neighbor who'd like to be less so? 2600:1017:B8A0:C313:0:22:FCF7:A501 (talk) 04:42, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The episode summaries can help; they usually billboard which historical figures make an appearance.
For general history of Canada, nothing I particularly frequent comes to mind. There's a very general overview on the official Canada website (definitely not neutral in tone), and a timeline of some significant events in Canada that you may be interested in. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:57, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cleghorn?[edit]

IMDB lists two Murdoch characters for actor Brian Kaulback - Hodge and "Cleghorn." Was Cleghorn a real person? A search for the name + Canadian turned up a hockey player and a banker but the dates don't seem to fit and I think I'll leave this one for someone else. 2600:1017:B822:9FD9:0:4E:27B:4901 (talk) 00:47, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think Cleghorn was just a one-time character in 3x09. Seems like an original character to me. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:24, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think he must have been the unnamed constable who brought Crabtree's niece to the station. 2600:1017:B8A0:C313:0:22:FCF7:A501 (talk) 07:20, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Crabtree / Newfoundland[edit]

Crabtree's summary notes that he's from Newfoundland but there's no link. I'd like to add one since there are links to, e.g., Nova Scotia for Murdoch and Yorkshire for Brackenreid. Wikipedia has several Newfoundland links and the one I'd like to use refers to the Colony, which covers the period ending 1907. OK? 2600:1017:B81A:424E:0:48:AC87:5001 (talk) 21:54, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone help? I wanted to replicate the "Freemasons/Freemason" link for "Colony of Newfoundland/Newfoundland" but where's the vertical line? All I could find was the slanted, which I've used here but doesn't belong in the link. 2600:1017:B80A:7D3E:0:51:3496:7601 (talk) 16:55, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you're talking about |, on most US keyboards it's ⇧ Shift+\. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:58, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, will try it. 2600:1017:B80A:7D3E:0:51:3496:7601 (talk) 17:13, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Unfortunately don't have a computer and this stuff is all so much harder on the phone. 2600:1017:B80A:7D3E:0:51:3496:7601 (talk) 07:11, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Consistency, thou art a jewel[edit]

As Rhett once said to Scarlett re I forget what. References to seasons and episodes are all over the lot - capitalization, commas, abbreviations, omissions - not just in this section but throughout the listicle. Does this bother anyone but me (aka Ms. OCD)? 2600:1017:B80A:7D3E:0:51:3496:7601 (talk) 17:09, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sarah Pensall[edit]

Corrected per episode credits. 2600:1017:B81C:5F34:0:17:6159:4D01 (talk) 00:14, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Arthur Conan Doyle[edit]

Added episode info from Season 1 and neatened up a bit of grammar but the whole thing could use a going-over. 2600:1017:B81C:5F34:0:17:6159:4D01 (talk) 02:13, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Brackenreid[edit]

Inspector Brackenreid refers to himself as Thomas Charles Brackenreid in season 3 episode 13, The Tesla Effect. In season 5 episode 6, Who Killed the Electric Carriage, he refers to himself as Thomas S. Brackenreid. He's also S in season 6 episode 3, Murdoch on the Corner, and episode 6, Murdoch au Naturel. Can't say for sure but I think it's S elsewhere. What is he in the books? 2600:1017:B8A0:B3A:0:18:3ADB:4401 (talk) 02:16, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Articles on Murdoch Actors[edit]

Many of the important characters mentioned in this article have articles about the actors who play them. But half of them are missing. I just started one on Margaret Brackenried (Arwen Humphreys).

Other Major Recurring Characters with missing articles are Nina Bloom, Erin Agostino; Louise Cherry, Bea Santos; Sally Pendrick, Kate Greenhouse; Lillian Moss, Sara Mitich; and the oh-so-evil Eva Pearce, Daiva Johnston.

As an American, my knowledge of these performers is limited. Maybe a Canadian editor can give them their much-deserved articles. Lou Sander (talk) 17:45, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If they meet either WP:GNG or WP:NACTOR, an article could be created, but a WP:REDLINK should suffice until those articles are created. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:30, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
