Untitled[edit]

Ported this over from The Transformers (animated series). I'm not very good with wikitables. These are kinda glitchy. They don't want to stay the same shape or show all the lines. I'm hoping somebody who is good with tables will come along and polish this up. :D WallyCuddeford 02:26, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why does it say Ironhide was killed by megatron, he wasn't, In transformers 3: Dark of the moon, he was killed by sentinel Prime as he clearly said: I here by dis-guard you for duty *bang**boom**bang*. Then Ironhide turns to rust... AJ2101

I'm glad the list is on it's own page, I think it needed to be. I just started editing so I'm definitely not the one to fix the tables up D: but I hope someone will. Right now I'm focused on getting screencaps of all the characters for the list. Also, something needs to be done with Season 3 characters, seeing how they're completely absent from this list. I don't know whether all of the characters should be on one huge list or whether it should be split up between seasons, as someone mentioned before, or something else. Moesakaru 06:44, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks for yer help. :D Yeah, I was going to add them all in order of first appearance, and I do have DVD of the first half of Season 3, but not the second half of Season 2, so I just kind of stopped, not being able to go straight in order. I can still just add the Season 3 people, and let somebody else come by later and add anyone I might have missed from Season 2. Personally, I don't think it's worth separating by season, as most characters span multiple seasons, and they'll be kinda listed that way anyway if they're arranged by order of first appearance. WallyCuddeford 20:38, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have the second half of Season 2, so I'll go ahead and start adding characters sometime soon. You're probably right about them being listed seperately. I think one comprehensive character list like this works best instead of them sprawled out everywhere... :D Moesakaru 01:10, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That'd be sweet on the Season 2 thing. :D But, you know, no hurry. Wikipedia will survive. In the meantime, I found The Key to Vector Sigma at the video store, so I can put in the characters introduced there, at least. WallyCuddeford 21:38, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I think the list should only include characters that have appeared in more than one episode (counting different parts of a multi-part episode as all one episode). So that would include Dr. Arkeville and Marissa Fairborne, but would leave out Nightbird and various one line characters. WallyCuddeford 20:38, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should I add screencaps and info on the female autobots? As far as I can tell they only appear in the episode 'The Search for Alpha Trion'. Niven 21:04, 10 August 2006 (GMT)

I added the remaining needed pics and bios, provided entries for the three Autobot Targetmasters, and arranged the entries within each team in stricter order of appearance. (They were roughly in that order already.) I left the "Others" section and existing text alone. The only things I replaced were hard-to-see images of Buzzsaw and Ratbat; I think these are clearer. Fair use rationale for Image:Autobatslogo.jpg[edit]

Image:Autobatslogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:01, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Characters not actually in the cartoon[edit]

For some reason, somebody had added a section o the combiner cassettes, even though they weren't actually in the cartoon. NotARealWord (talk) 15:53, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gestalts duplicated[edit]

The "gestalts" actually appear twice in the listing. They're first listed, briefly, in the sections about the teams they're formed of, and then a second time, in more detail, in a separate "Gestalts" section. They are the exact same characters! Why should they be listed twice? If I find the time I'm going to merge the listings. JIP | Talk 07:26, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria[edit]

What's the criteria for being a "main character"? Is that based on how many episodes each appeared in? And why is Grapple listed among Minibots? He's not a minibot. Rm994 (talk) 21:06, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, really. What IS the criteria? Sideswipe is a main character? I can't remember him ever having any lines. But Hound and Mirage are not? They both had entire episodes centered around them and appeared all the time in the original series. Very odd.

Also, there was no such thing as a Hummer H2 in 1979 so I'm pretty sure that's not what Ratchet transformed in to. You're confusing real Transformers with those god-awful Bayformers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.51.185.62 (talk) 08:23, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes someone who is less lazy then I should change it. Prowl, Sideswipe, and Ratchet are most definitely not main characters in the original cartoon. Hound arguably does more and he's not included in the Main Character list, although I would not consider him a main character either outside of the pilot. Or, heck, Perceptor does more then all four characters combined and look where he is on this thing. 96.74.105.129 (talk) 19:54, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Casette warriors[edit]

The "Casette warriors" section has long been the only section with its own separate article. And even that is not true any more - it's now merged to Mini-Con, which I believe is wrong - "Mini-Con" is a term invented long after the G1 series, and refers specifically to the later series. Applying the term to mean "any small-sized Transformer" is an unsourced fan-made invention. The cassette warriors should be removed from the article Mini-Con and instead merged to here. JIP | Talk 19:02, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Status[edit]

The status column should be deleted in accordance with WP:TENSE. If a person is watching the first episode of Transformers, then the characters are alive. If they are watching the last, then some are "dead". WP:TENSE says that works of fiction exist in a perpetual present tense. That column violates the rules and should be deleted. This article is a mess[edit]

This article is a mess. It has several problems:

The grouping of the Transformers is inconsistent. Some characters are grouped by faction: Whether they are Autobots or Decepticons. Others are grouped by which subgroup they belong to.

I agree with this would be ideal. But, that would mean to explain each sub-group twice (for instance, explaining Mini-Cassettes twice). So, I propose to keep this and make the same thing for COMBINERS (and indicate related terms such as "Gestalts"). Besides, City-bots MUST be split into factions to keep consistence with the Mini-Cassettes sub-group. So, each and every Autobot and Decepticon get listed in its own faction except for those who are "special" in some way AND are found in both factions. (Dinobots are found in the Autobots only and that is why they are listed there directly. Otherwise, there should be a sub-group for all of them. But, that is not the case.) George Rodney Maruri Game (talk) 17:09, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Transformer characters, like humans, Nebulans and aliens, are mixed in the list in their own section. There are Transformer-specific sections both before them and after them. There is no section-specific distinction between robots and organics. Besides, for the Headmasters and Targetmasters, listing the actual robots in one section and their sidekicks in another is problematic.

The tables themselves are a mess. The descriptions look almost copy-pasted from the Tech Specs or other official Hasbro descriptions, which could constitute a copyright violation. And as stated above by another user, the column "status" doesn't make sense because this article is supposed to be viewed independently from the actual series. JIP | Talk 12:36, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The title of the article is "List of The Transformers (TV series) characters" for a reason. IT IS ABOUT THE CHARACTERS IN DIRECT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ACTUAL SERIES!!! George Rodney Maruri Game (talk) 17:09, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Autobot city[edit]

There should be a section for Autobot city (Metroplex) as there is one for Decepticon city (Trypticon).

Some mix of Copyright and Promotional Failures[edit]

Most of these read like the toy brochure descriptions. While toy brochures aren't found on Earwig, so they aren't flagged there, they seem fairly clearly to be such. The descriptions cannot be unclarified merges between their TV personas and their toy natures. Given the title of the article, that latter shouldn't be here at all. @George Rodney Maruri Game and JIP:

I suggest that we remove any description that appears to be about the characters as toys. Happy to do the work myself, but didn't want to wade in and be reverted. Thoughts? Nosebagbear (talk) 19:22, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

By all means, go ahead, as long as it leaves the characters with at least some description, so it's not completely empty. JIP | Talk 20:59, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
