I made some minor changes to the lists, including putting France in the list of Allies, which it certainly deserves. Also corrected a few inaccuracies - India was in the war long before it was attacked.

I also took the decision to remove separate references to British Colonies, not because I wanted to downplay their contribution (which was enormous) but simply because if we list one we should list them all (and there were a lot).

I still have trouble with this page. For example, I don't see that Poland was neutral before it was attacked, any more then Britain or France. I would like to think that if Hitler had attacked France first, the Polish would have come to their aid.

The Phillipines had US troops in place when they were attacked.

Any thought on a better classification?

You may want to include Talk:World War II/Temp/Article here. -- User:Docu

Simplicity[edit]

For something that is supposed to be a simple list, this is getting very complicated.

I want to make a solid proposal; since this is supposed to be a list, each country should appear only once. I know that some of the Allied Powers were invaded, and supporters later became Allies and so on, but the idea of a list page is that someone should be able to come to this page and get a simple list of which countries took part. For more complexity they can go to World War II or the history of the country.

ChrisO, I think some additions are getting a little complex. I don't think Slovakia should be included - it didn't exist as a country at the time. Nor did Croatia. "The four main Allied powers all experienced partial or total occupation." needs some real explanation. Most people list five main powers, and I'm unaware that the US was occupied at all. Please feel free to correct me. DJ Clayworth 15:57, 22 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Does anyone know what the difference is beween a country that signed the Tripartite pact and a co-signatory? It seems to me you sign or you don't sign. DJ Clayworth 17:04, 23 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Bits of this page still look weird. I still find it strange that Czechoslovakia (whose nationals fought on the Allied side) is in the same category as Austria (which didn't seem to object much to its annexation). DJ Clayworth 14:44, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Poland[edit]

Shouldn't Poland be in the section: Countries that were attacked, occupied, or switched sides during the war? Philip Baird Shearer 10:24, 8 Oct 2004 (UTC)

1910[edit]

The annexation of 1910 technically conforms with "Countries that were annexed by, or at war with, Axis Powers before World War II," virtually had nothing to do with World War II! --Nanshu 01:02, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Merge with participants?[edit]

Should this be merged with participants of World War II? Oberiko 16:46, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

In my opinion that would make the most sense. -- Joolz 17:17, 15 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
