Chinese Empire Duration Inaccurate?[edit]

I sorted the duration of each empire and it seems that there is a bit of bias to the "Chinese Empire." Let's focus on the "Roman State" since there's a little bit of favoritism in terms of how long these empires lasted. So first of all, why is the start date of the Roman State 753 BC? 753 BC was the date when Rome, the city, was founded. I think we can all agree that a mere city is far from an actual empire. If we consider doing the same thing to the Chinese Empire then the start date should start at 2070 BC during the Xia Dynasty or 1600 BC during the Shang Dynasty. Instead the start date of the Chinese Empire in this article is 221 BC when China was already unified empire but by then China was already thousands of years old. Isn't it unfair when the Roman state wasn't even an empire yet and yet it's considered the start date?

Next, I want to talk about the end date. The end date for the Roman State was 1453, when Constantinople fell to the Ottomans. The end date for the Roman State is fair, but the end date on the Chinese Empire definitely isn't. The end date of the Chinese Empire is 1912, when the Qing Dynasty fell, which I consider unfair since China didn't disappear and still exists to this day. Sure, China wasn't a monarchy anymore but it was still an empire with huge influence that continues to this day. The Chinese Empire hasn't ended yet and probably won't anytime soon. Even if we say an empire needs an emperor, which China doesn't have anymore, the United States and the Soviet Union are literally on the list. Isn't it unfair that the end date for the Roman State was when the last remnants was just Constantinople, which is just a mere city and nowhere near an empire, while the end date for the Chinese Empire was just a change in the form of government? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.29.69.129 (talk) 01:52, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

French Empire?[edit]

Unless it's on there under a different name and I'm missing it, the modern French empire isn't on there (only ancient and medieval ones), that's major, should be addressed.

s just us Americans thinking we are better than every one else when we aint id rather live in Europe than here its a dump. Only historical and true empires should be listed not ones we wish existed.

Adding little flags[edit]

Adding little flags to Possible and informal empires.

Sumer and Rome[edit]

I noticed that the duration for Sumer also includes the period of time when it was basically a culture and collection of city states, not an Empire by any stretch. With Rome, its time is omitted from its early Kingdom and Republic days. This seems like a bit of a double standard does it not? The first 1500 years of Sumer's existence does not fall within what we would consider an empire. As well, should the Roman Empire and Byzantine Empire not be merged into one submission for the list? I understand historians gave them a different name, however, the people still considered themselves Roman as they were, it very much is a continuation, not a different entity.

Spanish Empire start date?[edit]

Wouldn’t the start of The Spanish Empire be 1415 with the Conquest of the Canary Íslands ? Snipercobra (talk) 01:10, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The generally understood beginning of the Spanish Empire as we know it is with the creation of their colonial empire and the beginning of their conquests of the New World. Cardandiris (talk) 15:05, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
add: Additionally, in 1415 the two crowns of Aragon and Castille were not yet in Union; and the majority of modern Spain was still divided into a small multitude of kingdoms. The Canary islands were conquered by Castille as its own body. Until the beginning of the personal union between the monarchs of Castille and Aragon in the late 1470's and therefore Spains de-facto unification one cannot consider actions prior to that marking a beginning of their Empire. Marhasi[edit]

I am legitimately curious, why is Marhasi considered an empire? Just following the Akkadian-based timeline of empires, I was caught off-guard when I saw a polity that existed prior to the Sargonic example of Empire listed as an Empire. Cardandiris (talk) 15:04, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How is The Congo Free State an Empire by any means? 136.33.235.64 (talk) 03:08, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

US Empire start date?[edit]

Í wouldn’t say that 1776 would be the start of the us as an Empire. Even after full independence, it was a loose confederation and barley centralized. Í would say the start would be around 1787 and 1790, where it was becoming more centralized and with the conquest of Appalachia. 136.33.235.64 (talk) 01:26, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of Empire[edit]

I'm assuming the empires listed here have to be... Well, empires, right? Some entries seem to stretch the definition a bit; Cultures like the Goths and Lombards, the entirety of the Maya and Phoenician civilizations under single banners, etc. Some trimming might be needed for some of the entries, or at least splitting them into individual nations rather than the entire cultural groupings Sharklord1954 (talk) 07:48, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
