Expansion[edit]

Would be good to expand the list to include the original owner's name. For example, one of the original Huntley & Palmers engines from Reading is still extant, and some would like it to return to Reading. But which is it on this list?

(Update) -- OK, so by chance I found it on Commons! ...but that's not the point!

Glaxo loco[edit]

A note added to fireless locomotive (and since removed) stated that the "Glaxo" locomotive was, in July 2008, standing derelict at Carnforth. Can't add the detail here yet, as there are at least two locos listed at Carnforth...

Bagnall 2370 vs Bagnall 2898[edit]

Regarding this change, where the image "Fireless_loco.jpg" was moved and re-captioned...

I think that a new image has been applied with the same filename. The old caption "Bagnall 2370 of 1929, in a field near Leicester" referred (IIRC) to a side-on picture of an un-restored fireless loco, in a field! The same caption problem now exists at Bagnall fireless locomotives (preserved) where the recent history of no 2370 is detailed.

I have examined the image file history at Commons, and this image-change is not apparent, so I am relying on my memory for this.

According to the Geograph project, the source of the photo, the loco is at Darlington Railway Centre and Museum, although further investigation has not identified the loco. (That is, ignoring the text in the WP article: "2898/1948, Darlington Railway Centre and Museum" !!)

Positive identification of this loco is still required, and an explanation of why it appears to be sporting a fake 'chimney'.

Update

Just found the original photo (thanks to Google!), which was moved to Commons from WP on 14 Oct 2009: File:Bagnall 2370 of 1929 in a field near Leicester.jpg. I'll modify the Bagnall page accordingly. -- EdJogg (talk) 11:31, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update 2

A Google for "Bagnall 2898 fireless" revealed this page at www.steamlocomotive.info. It lists the loco as being at Darlington, and the picture, such as it is, would seem to be of the same one (the body colour is the same kind of blue, and the buffer is white, which is pretty unusual). I am satisifed that the new photo is of 2898.

Unfortunately, the 'chimney' is not visible in that picture, so we're none the wiser on that front. -- EdJogg (talk) 11:51, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
