Ascents which are the first at a given grade for a country, but not for the world, will be removed (the article converts grading systems between countries to get the global consensus first). Ascents whose attribution is linked to blogs, unverified personal opinions, and low-grade sources will be removed. Multiple ascents—but no more than four—will be kept for the very highest grades, and particularly bouldering grades, as the consensus on a grade can change materially over time, and thus the ascent which was the first (or second) can change (a lot). Use is made in this article of important articles/databases that seek to establish a definitive list of firsts, and while they are not perfect (because grade consensus changes), strong deviations from these sources must be strongly verified. |

Free solo ascents[edit]
This section focuses on multipitch milestone ascents. Other parts of the article focus on single pitch grade milestones. NB that single pitch free solos have been done at much harder grades than the 7c+ for Freerider. Dave McCleod has a video of him doing an 8b single pitch free solo, redpointed. Also Alain Robert free solod 8b in 1991. There are probably others too I don't know this discipline very well. 86.18.122.60 (talk) 09:29, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- There is a whole section on List of grade milestones in rock climbing#Free-solo by men for single pitch free solos (and the current hardest grade is 8c+). It also includes Mccleod's free solo which was one tought to be 8c, but is now 8b+. It also has Robert's 8b solo of Compilation which was in 1993. Hope that helps. The image of Alex Honnold appears to be of his solo ascent of Excellent Adventure at The Rostrum, not El Capitan. An appropriate image should be sourced and substituted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.151.230.28 (talk) 17:04, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
Sleeping Lion[edit]
An IP keeps adding "Sleeping Lion" to the 9b+ section even though it is not one of the first four 9b+ routes in history (and not even the fifth or sixth or seventh, but is probably roughly the 10th 9b+ route in history. Aszx5000 (talk) 10:37, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
