Great work[edit]

Great work so far! This article may be lacking a few things, at first glance:

There ought to be a comparison with the list that Alexander Mitchell has. Some of the members go by multiple names. Who did the superadded theologians sit in place of? (see mitchell).

Also Reid's work on the Biographies of some of the Divines ought to be referenced. He also gives a Bibliography of each man he covers.

Christopher Love[edit]

Response: Errrr, maybe[edit]

Alright, I initially based this page on the Hetherington book and the Westminster Assembly Project webpage (both of which are linked on the main page). There were some discrepancies between these two sources.

Then, I realized that the new Oxford Dictionary of National Biography had a list of the Divines, so I copied that (which added a lot, actually), and tried to incorporate the information from the other two lists. But there definitely were contradictions and inconsistencies, which I tried to resolve, but some of which probably are wrong right now.

I would appreciate it if anyone more knowledgeable than myself could figure out how to reconcile these three sources.

The original document at [1] might be a help, though of course as a check. There are two ways to discuss the point: within the article on one of the members of the Assembly, where the sources can be compared for that particular person, or in this article. I prefer doing it per member in the article on that person, where that is possible. It seems logical that if the article on a person includes (as it will in some cases) the information that they never attended the Assembly, it should also include information about doubts whether they were elected. The alternative (and I suppose the most notable names have mostly been added by now) is to annotated this list with footnotes in the cases where there is no article and may not be for that person. Christopher Love was never a member of the Westminster Assembly. You will find no contemporary document stating that he was. The new Oxford Dictionary of National Biography does not claim it, nor does Van Dixhoorn's edition of the Westminster Assembly minutes. Those are the proper sources to rely on. It is probably the case that Hetherington just made a mistake, probably eliding Richard Love with Christopher Love and the original DNB copied this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.186.227.107 (talk) 19:56, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Further notes on clear identifications with the Venn database of Cambridge graduates. One stranger is John Gippes ("Gippes, John (GPS651J)". A Cambridge Alumni Database.
