Proposed criteria for inclusion on the list[edit]

The purpose of this list is to have information about characters who are sufficiently notable that readers might be interested in learning about them, but who do not deserve their own article because there is just not enough to say about them to expand an article beyond a stub.

Therefore not every single character ever to appear in the strip needs an entry. I would suggest limiting this either to people who have appeared in more than one episode, or to those who have done something important or notable but who do not fit comfortably in another article.

Any character in this list who is later expanded into an article of their own should have a link from here to the new article (at least for a while) so that people can find it, rather than instantly being deleted from the list. Richard75 14:16, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good call - what I've done is add redirects from some of the other minor characters that have had their entries deleted in the past:
Its a pity we can't access the stubs as we could just lift the information. Can admins do that? Anyone an admin?
Other characters? Spikes Harvey Rotten should either go in here of The Cursed Earth, also Tweek. I think Walter the Wobot needs his own entry but what about Maria his housemaid? (Emperor 16:32, 8 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Other redirects:
I'll have a think on others and see if there aren't profile links for some of them. If any are big enough to warrant their won entry then they can be split off but this should avoid some unnecessary stubs. (Emperor 16:55, 8 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
On Walter the Wobot - as well as dozens of appearances in Judge Dredd strips he also had 9 instalments of his own eponymous strip [1] (1 and 5 pagers) which pretty much means he should have his own entry. No rush though (Emperor 17:27, 8 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
The series "Whatever happened to" is worth checking for important minor characters. Also there is Otto Sump [2] - worth his own entry? There was even a trade reprint. Ditto PJ Maybe [3]. Both recurring villians. (Emperor 17:45, 8 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
How about Judge Prager with something like: "Judge Prager took the Long Walk into the Undercity in 2101 when he became a werewolf and emerged twenty years later.
"Cry of the Werewolf" (by John Wagner/Alan Grant and Steve Dillon, in 2000 AD #322-328, 1983)
"Out of the Undercity" (by John Wagner and Carl Critchlow, in 2000 AD #1313-1316, 2003)
I'm going to dig the relevant issues out as I think Mr Bones also appeared in the second story didn't he? (Emperor 15:46, 20 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

He did. Prager took the long walk in 2105.Richard75 16:08, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You sure? Although there is no date on the CotW I just dug out Out of the Undercity and it confirms that Prager took the walk round in 2101 - Dredd says he met him in 2106 (or there abouts and Prager took the Long Walk 4 years before that) when he brought Dredd back form the Undercity after Dredd had become a werewolf (I got my facts mixed up there). He went back down again and didn't emerge for another 20 years. Good illustarttions are [4] and [5] (I prefer the second). (Emperor 17:04, 20 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
You were right. My mistake.Richard75 21:24, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can we make sure there is enough information to explain why they are worth inclusion on the list. So avoid empty headers and longer descriptions (and references - I've made a bit of a start but expanding that to define where and when they appeared would really help) as an entry like this: "Anatoli Kazan is the crippled clone son of War Marshal Kazan" doesn't explain why they should be on the list. Richard75's opening paragraph outlines what this is - what it isn't is a comprehensive list of supproting characters in Judge Dredd. I suppose good rules of thumb are: have they had an important role in more than one story and/or are you going to be linking into the entry from elsewhere? (Emperor 14:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Sorry, my fault,
1. Anatoli Kazan is a reoccuring villain within the Dreddverse
2. De Klerk instrcted Armon Gill to kill democrats
3. Citizen Snork, should that go?
4. Doctor Bolts was the villain behind The Hunting Party. --SGCommand (talkcontribs) 14:57, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No need to apologise but that information should be in the entries along with other information. For example mention the Hunting Party, add in a reference to it [6] and add a section on the story in the Cursed Earth entry (which I've expanded to specifically encourage people to expand on major stroylines) - then you can link that mention of the story back into Doctor Bolts. For Kazan mention where he reappears and throw in references for them. That kind of thing - part of the point of this is to expand on characters mentioned elsewhere so the curious can follow up on a mention of them and find out more about them and where they may have also appeared (for that reason I'm thinking of doing one on Judge Renga but I'll need to pull out the relevant issues). (Emperor 15:22, 24 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
And no I don't think Snork should go - I think Snork might qualify for his own entry eventually as he (like Sump) have been recurring characters playing major parts in a number of storylines. First it needs fleshing out then who nose (nose/knows? Ah well) (Emperor 15:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I deleted DeKlerk because it is easier to mention him in the Armon Gill article when it is expanded.Richard75 22:37, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about Bill CLinton? He crops up in two John Wagner/Siku stories but I haven't read either it just struck me as I was looking at Siku's page that it might need explaining. (Emperor 16:54, 27 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Plus theres Judge Renga, Mercey Shakespeare and Cholo/Chief Justice Sengrenegra--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 17:50, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Definite yes to Judge Renga (Emperor 18:13, 27 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
And the others?--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 18:14, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not so sure. Mercey can be tagged on Chopper and if there needs to be a Cholo one it could be added here [[Ciudad_Barranquilla#Regime_Change] (although I am not convinced it needs one, yet - they may return) (Emperor 19:19, 27 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
What about Herbert George Sewell? [7] (Emperor 14:00, 4 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I suppose if Bella Bagley is eligible to be on the list then so is he. Richard75 17:13, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I saw your subtle update of the opening segment. It does seem to have bloated rather and the menton of Crazy Al stumps me as I really can't remember the story or how important they were. Without refences it is impossible to check. Others of concern:
  • Garcia. That statement needs justifying and/or her section needs expanding as it doesn't explainw ehere we have seen her on what her importance is.
  • Vix. Was there role important?
  • Anatoli Kazan - not the whole but but the last senence is speculation without an good references.
  • Public Defender 314 - it states he has been used for comic effects in the stories he has appeared in. They need to be named and referenced (a little outline would be nice).
They are ons that caught my eye that are in real need of justifying their presence here. After it isn't "List of ever minor character in Judge Dredd" ;) (Emperor 19:47, 20 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I've done some ruthless editing... I've removed a lot of minor characters (eg. Vix was only in one or two panels and had about two lines). Hopefully I haven't started an edit war with someone! Richard75 21:03, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Shouldn't be an issue. They can always come here and discuss it if there is a problem. (Emperor 21:15, 20 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]
What about something on Nate Slaughterhouse/Mandroid? There is going to be a trade at the end of the year [8] and he is currently the focus of another big storyline. Although we can't predict if he makes it out of this one to return in the future but with all that going on I suspect there might be a need for a section on him. (Emperor 16:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Might as well, since he is now a recurring character and both his stories are quite long, about 10 or 12 episodes each. Richard75 21:04, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK cool. I'll sort that out in the next few days. (Emperor 22:37, 13 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Align menu left?[edit]

The menu wll be long and, while it is probably a page best navigated by using it, if we aligned it left then folk would be able to get staright into the content. (Emperor 20:52, 9 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

OK but I don't know how. Richard75 21:03, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can see it at the top of the Volgans entry - I believe it is a tad cntroversial but it might work fine here (Emperor 21:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Thanks. I've done it, but now I'm wondering if it would look better on the right? Richard75 23:29, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Seems fine. Right hand nav is more ergonomically correct but expectation tops ergonomics in this case. See how it goes anyway (Emperor 00:00, 10 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Detective-Judge Armitage[edit]

There was already a stub article on Detective-Judge Armitage, and since he has his own series in the Megazine and his own novels, I thought it makes sense to treat him as a major character and give him hi sown article. I have merged the material from here to the main article and linked to it, but should we keep a link here, and if so should we keep the whole paragraph or abbreviate it? Richard75 17:28, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See its crazy things like this that catch me out ;) . On the [[Talk:2000_AD_%28comic%29#Start to do] list I have had this listed as Armitage (comics) for ages (and linked a number of entries into it). The question is do we list it under character or under series? If he appears outside the series then it has to be under character I suppose (see for example Judge Anderson). Also has implications for the Young Middenface merge. Thoughts? (Emperor 17:47, 12 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
I can't think of any non-Armitage stories with Armitage in them, except for the Judge Dredd novels from Virgin. It would be easier to move the page to Armitage (comics) if some pages already link to there, than to find and change all of those links. Richard75 18:01, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
He has actually appeared in a Judge Dredd book and audio play so the right entry is Detective-Judge Armitage. I'll make the changes. (Emperor 18:39, 12 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
He appears in The A-Z Of Judge Dredd (ISBN 0-600-58408-9), so I figured he warrants an inclusion on this list. Since he's part of the Judge Dredd universe I thought that's why they included them in the A-Z, since there are other characters in there that don't actually appear in a story with Dredd, but are still part of the same universe. I'd call him a minor character because he doesn't take part in any major storyline including Dredd, but still has his own small part in the universe. I'm not sure if I'm making any sense.
If someone fleshes out the Armitage (comics) article, however, then I suggest we cut down most of the paragraph and just link to it. That way he still makes it on the list, but I think the main thread is whether he's actually a minor character or not. I'm not sure if I even answered that properly, hah. Vanguard 20:28, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest removing him from the list as he isn't a minor character (ditto PJ Maybe, Otto Sump and Walter the Wobot). At the moment the Armitage entry just needs plot outlines of his adventures. (Emperor 20:48, 13 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Characters requiring their own entries[edit]

Some characters that don't yet have their own category require one so I thought it best to make a list and we can jump straight to starting the entry:

Any others? (Emperor 01:57, 15 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I would suggest Galen DeMarco as she is now an ex-judge. Also:

Richard75 13:57, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems reasonable - a number of them have their own trades (like Gill). I'd just go wth Oola Blint. I've added a few links to their 2000 AD profiles. I've also added in Mechanismo to my list. I'd umm and ahh over the DeMarco one as do you change the entry once they have resigned? I suppose the Rico Dredd entry suggests that seems wise. Although one could deploy the Captain Peacock arguement ;) I'd say go with Galen DeMarco - I notice 2000 AD cheeat by calling her DeMarco. (Emperor 16:19, 15 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
I will move the characters from here into their own article in the next few days, okay?--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 11:18, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK - as long as you leave enough information in there to prevent the entry being removed immediately (like the Torquemada one). I've updated the Judge Edgar one to add in more general things (better cat, Dredd info panel, link to profile, etc.). If you drop a note in here as you move things across I'll keep a beady eye open and see what I can throw as they become available. (Emperor 12:16, 17 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Did Otto Sump, Walter the Wobot & Judge Guthrie--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 10:39, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good - I've been through and tweaked a few things and added Sumo, Walter and Guthrie to the Template along with the new DeMarco one which I've been through and wikified. (Emperor 14:41, 18 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Nero Narcos, Oola Blint, Armon Gill, Judge Castillo & Judge Logan done --SGCommand (talkcontribs) 12:33, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've added them into the template and thrown in their profile links. I suspect the most recent couple of batches of entries need fleshing out before the next lot just so we can guarantee they aren't deleted. Marcos and Logan in particular look a little thin at the moment (although there is plenty of room for expansion). (Emperor 12:56, 19 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I'm not sure there is enough to say about Logan to expand his article very much. He certainly isn't a very notable character. (Of course, that may change as "Origins" progresses.) Richard75 16:52, 19 October 2006 (UTC) In fact I think there's no point in giving anybody their own article unless that article is more than one paragraph long, otherwise there will just be a big proliferation of stubs which might be deleted. Short entries should be kept on this page until they can be expanded.Richard75 17:02, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - they need to be proper solid stubs because if they get deleted then it can be a pain to get them back - I'll go through the ones we have later and see what I can add. Also if reference are added to their appearances then that helps with expanding things when the time comes. (Emperor 17:31, 19 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Are we to leave the rest as Minor Characters--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 11:32, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No we just need to expand the entries here and/or as they are put into new entries. Just moving the text over from here isn't going to create a very good stub (or a good arguement why it should be there and not here). Best bet would be expanding the entry here and throw in references and the like. That way it'd be looking solid before the move when it'd need to be further expanded (possibly also including character boxes down the side? There is also nothing to stop us throwing in the image we want to use now so it is all ready to go when we move things. (Emperor 14:52, 20 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Should we move Judge Logan back to the list? His article is only a couple of sentences long, and (unless this character is substantially developed during the rest of "Origins") there is not enough information about him to expand the article.Richard75 22:42, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. If it expands to the point where he needs his own entry we can split it off but as it stands I don't think there is enough for him to be worth an entry. (Emperor 23:11, 24 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Added Mechanismo--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 13:53, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Added Judge Karyn, Stan Lee (Judge Dredd character) and Jacob Sardini, created redirect for Raptaur. Will do PJ Maybe once I get the book concerning him.--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 12:00, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Finally added PJ Maybe--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 14:36, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

We might as well drop a few piccies in here - it'll help fancy up the page and for those we will be splitting off it will get the image in place for use. For starters: PJ Maybe - I'm going for either one of these: [22] [23] - although the theme is similar the first one seems to summarise everything nicely. (Emperor 15:06, 20 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I agree that this article would be improved by some pictures. I would suggest that we start with pictures of those characters who look interesting or different, so that it isn't just a lot of judges in helmets who all look the same. For example, Prager in werewolf mode, and Mr Bones or Nimord because they're disfigured, and things like that. Also while I'm on the subject, we still need some pictures for people who now have their own articles: Armitage, Guthrie, Niles, Shnker, Castillo. I say "we," but actually my comics are difficult to get hold of at the moment, so I'm rather relying on you guys for the forseeable future...Richard75 17:49, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm gonna see what I can dig up after work. There's bound to be stuff we can use out there. By the way, I agree that the first picture of P.J. Maybe is the best choice. Gamer Junkie 21:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Groups/Organizations[edit]

Should there be a section for them as well--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 12:45, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dunno. What were you think of? It doesn't fit within the general remit of the page (which is already pretty big) - if there were a few it might be worth a new page but I wonder if they can be slotted in here. The Doomsday Dogs go under Father Earth the ape gang can go under Don Uggie Apelino, etc. But say what you wre thinking of and we'll see. Bottom line is we could tag another section on if need be but is the need there? (Emperor 20:25, 10 November 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Dunno really, someting to connect Diktatorat and Doomsday Dogs (as well as several others of course) in its own section.--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 12:19, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose SJS, PSU, Academy of Law, Psi Division, etc.... Mind you, I think the Diktatorat article is not really notable enough to exist and should be moved here.Richard75 18:40, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Missing: one cool cat[edit]

black and white pinstripes, drinks champagne, answers to the name of Max Normal! Totnesmartin 23:36, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How did we miss that?! Sorted.Richard75 14:08, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Judge Kruger[edit]

Kruger has only appeared in one episode, 5 years ago. I suggest he is not significant enough to appear on the list. Richard75 20:55, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was under the impression that a list of minor characters was exactly that; minor characters. Go ahead and delete him if the entry is such a burden on this page. By they way, you also have Quincy, Slocum, DCJ Fish, Robert Krush, Aaron Aardvark and a number others, all of whom are also extremely minor characters. Gamer Junkie 04:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose the thing is it might be minor characters but it can't be all characters. I am cocnerned the list is overly long though. Judge Fish and Aaron Aadvark are iconic characters but there isn't a huge amount to be said about them - couldn't they be included where the story is discussed? Either the Cal page or one specifically for The Day the Law Died? I'd say criteria fr inclusion should be appearing a number of times or having an important biography which expands on the Judge Dredd universe. (Emperor 10:34, 21 December 2006 (UTC))[reply]
Generally, I would have thought this too. However, with such minor characters already listed, I didn't believe it to be a problem. I thought Kruger was notable as a daystick champion, a Judge second only to Dredd in brutality and convictions, and as one of very few people who actually escaped "the law" and Dredd's wrath. I'm surprised there haven't been more stories featuring him. Like I said, if it's bothering everybody that much, remove him. Just be sure to note that doing so would be somewhat hypocritical, as there are equally minor characters here already. It would seem that it's a case of which characters are memorable and which are not to those who regularly maintain this article, and that's not very fair, I would think. Gamer Junkie 14:25, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The difference in my opinion was that all of the people on the list already have been in more than one episode (except Aardvark, and perhaps we should delete him). However I suppose I should have considered other criteria for inclusion. Bent judges in MC1 are quite rare, and perps who Dredd fails to catch are rarer still, so on that basis perhaps Kruger should stay after all. I hadn't thought of those points when I nominated him for removal. Richard75 20:12, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, Dredd ALWAYS gets his man, and this is probably the reason Kruger stuck in my head. Perhaps I should have added this distinction in the description. It appears as though I've left it out. Gamer Junkie 20:33, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Psi-Judge Kit Agee[edit]

I've noticed that she isn't featured here, and does not appear to have an individual article. I'm not certain, as I've never gotten around to reading "Necropolis," but doesn't she play an integral role in that particular story's plot? Just thought I'd bring it up. Gamer Junkie 22:07, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes she does. All of the necessary information is probably already in the Necropolis article, but we could have a sentence or two here linking to Necropolis and briefly summarising who she is. I'll get round to it soon, unless someone beats me. (Sorry about late reply.) Richard75 16:40, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. The only information I could see is that she is used as a psychic bridge by the Dark Judges and then killed by Judge Dredd to stop them, but I only went over the article quickly. Gamer Junkie 16:58, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done it. That's basically all that happens to her, but since her name is mentioned in the Psi-Division article it might as well link to here instead of Necropolis, as people might not want to have to trawl through the whole Necropolis article just to find out who she is. Richard75 17:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ha ha, that's exactly what I ended up doing. Good work. Gamer Junkie 17:09, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images... fruitless[edit]

I don't know about anybody else, but my efforts have been a complete waste of time. I can barely find any decent images of Judge Dredd, let alone minor characters in the strip. It seems he's not very big outside of England, and since I live in Australia, I guess that makes me one of the few readers outside of the UK who are familiar with the comic Dredd, as opposed to the film Dredd, who everybody seems to know. Whatever the reason, there's just no images to find. Gamer Junkie 03:34, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for trying. I'll try myself in a couple of weeks and see what I can find. Richard75 18:11, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categorising redirects[edit]

There are (rightly) a lot of redirects here and there is an interesting suggestion here that such redirects can be categorised so people can find them - specifically this: "Categorization of list entries – Some well-organized lists have redirects pointing at their subsections. In such cases, categorization of the redirects can be an alternative way of browsing entries in a long list."

So even though Father Earth redirects here he would be listed in Category:Judge Dredd characters which would potential be a handy way for people to find the section here..

Thoughts? (Emperor 02:48, 16 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Good idea. I'm a bit busy for the next day or two, but then I'll make a start, or join in. Richard75 19:28, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, as long as we think it is a good idea. I'll have a run at it and we can see how it looks. (Emperor 20:57, 16 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I did down to Spikes Harvey Rotten. Seems to work OK - turns out the names are in italics if they are redirects so I've added an explanation on the category. (Emperor 23:07, 16 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I added War Marshal Kazan (under K), Sabbat and Raptaur, but can't find any more redirect pages after "R". Richard75 21:09, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I scooped up the rest - Max Normal, Murd, Don Uggie Apelino‎ and Judges Feyy, Logan and Castillo. Which (so far) is the lot. We might want to look into adding more for other characters but if anyone wants to it might be wise to drop a proposal in here. (Emperor 21:50, 17 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Next stage[edit]

Looking at the main example of a quality characters list on WP:FICT: Characters of Final Fantasy VIII it shows there are angles we can exploit to take this up a notch by looking at real-world aspects. The two main ones are:

  • Character creation - any information we can get on the creation of the characters
  • Cultural impact - appearances in other media (films, games, statues, etc.), pop cultural references, etc.

Also some kind of opening paragraph would be handy. I was thinking of something along the lines of:

"Given that Judge Dredd has appeared nearly every week for 30 years there is a requirement for a large and diverse cast of supporting characters who can help add flavour to the world he inhabits. Although there are some notable one-offs these characters often have a recurring role."

Also I have the A-Z (and I'm pretty sure another book somewhere around here) which should help to nail down things like appearances (I'm going to sort out the Don Uggie section out in a bit). I'd imagine someone else will have The Mega-History (and hopefully Santa will bring me TPO if I've been a good boy) which means we can probably sort most things out. Any other ideas? (Emperor 17:13, 5 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Good idea. I've got the Mega-History book (not with me though, I'll have to go and get it in a couple of weeks) and when I get a chance I'll look through it to see what can be included (unless someone else does it first). We probably don't need a list of every single appearance, like they did in the A-Z, just debuts and major stories. The more non-fictional info we can get, the better. Richard75 01:26, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Judge Beeny[edit]

The entry on Beeny was getting quite long - by far the longest on this page - and was already longer than some of the other Judge Dredd-related articles, so I have started a new article called Judge Beeny and moved all of the entry over there. I have left an entry on this page too and cut it down (as we did with Armitage). Richard75 (talk) 00:28, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody deleted the Judge Beeny article and redirected it here, on the ground that if she has an entry on a "List of minor characters," then she does not warrant having her own article. I have undone that, and removed her from this article instead to avoid future confusion. Richard75 (talk) 15:08, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrighted images tag[edit]

User:ESkog tagged this article for having too many copyrighted images in it (there are currently 12). Since we are expected to justify keeping them, I thought it would be helpful to cut and paste the applicable guidelines / policies here for ease of reference, since they are scattered around on different pages.

I think that all of the images here clearly satisfy criteria 1-7 and 9-10. However number 8 ("significance") needs to be dealt with on an image-by-image basis. I suggest that we can remove the images of Beeny and Armitage since those images are already available on their own articles. However I want to keep as many images as possible (it should be noted that the purported maximum of five is disputed on the guidelines page, so it is not policy and does not represent a consensus). Let's see how many we can justify.

Typically, list articles such as this one are best illustrated by a single image which contains several of the characters. By the name of the article, these characters are "minor" - if they were really significant, they would warrant their own article. Keep in mind that significance is not the only test here, but also criterion 3 - Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information. It is doubtful that there are group pictures as these are characters that have appeared in stories across thirty years with only one or two on the list appearing in any one story. As Richard75 says we can get rid of a couple (who shouldn't be on this list). Equally Grampus is a Klegg and can be dealt with on the Cal page or the appropriate story, equally there should be a group picture of Tweak and Spikes on the Cursed Earth article. Ones I'd definitely keep are Citizen Snork and Whitey. It may also be we can find a group image outside of the usual stories, what about Helter Skelter or the Judge Dredd books (although do they use original art?). It'll need some digging. About Kenny Who?[edit]

I think it's worth mentioning the origin of Kenny's name. It's from the time Cam Kennedy, the artist, went to America looking for work. With his strong Cal-Hab accent, he'd introduce himself, as Cam Kennedy, only for American comics editors to mis-hear, and ask "Kenny who?". This story's mentioned on Cam's page on Wiki, and I think originates from one of the interviews done in the Megazine in years gone by. Good luck finding a source!

If there's no source to back it up, then rather than adding it to the article here - it should instead be removed from the Cam Kennedy article. Chaheel Riens (talk) 22:19, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletions and mergers[edit]

The result of the AfD debate was that this page should be moved from List of minor characters in Judge Dredd to List of Judge Dredd characters, the existing list should be trimmed of entries which are too trivial, and more important characters who have recently had their own articles deleted should be merged here. So I have ruthlessly deleted a number of entries and merged some characters to this article (mostly with less detail than before so their entries in the list are not too long). I hope no-one feels too aggrieved if I have pruned or removed their contributions to this article; it was the price of saving this article from deletion (and I didn't start the wholesale deletion of Judge Dredd articles!). Can someone please add Chopper? Richard75 (talk) 17:10, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is this list an appropriate location for Devlin Waugh after Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Devlin Waugh? Unfortunately this one was outright deleted, and I don't see a copy of the source on Deletionpedia. I am totally unfamiliar with the character, but seemed notable enough for at least a list entry. I wasn't sure if he's 2000AD entirely separate from Judge Dredd or if there is overlap. (There was mention of this list in said AfD, though.) -2pou (talk) 22:28, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're absolutely right, I'd forgotten about him. I'll add him at the weekend (unless someone beats me to it). Richard75 (talk) 00:06, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mean Machine Angel[edit]

Mean Machine Angel currently redirects here following an AfD in December. There's no information about Mean Machine or the rest of the Angel gang here, nor anywhere else on Wikipedia Earhacker (talk) 12:20, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mean Machine Angel was added in September 2020. JIP | Talk 00:42, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dirty Frank[edit]

Strange to see that Dirty Frank does not have his own paragraph. Given that he has been a primary character in numerous Judge Dredd stories, stared in Low Life and has now been resurrected as Hershey's sidekick in her new series he must have had a notable enough presence in the Dredd cannon to get something of a mention. 86.170.30.183 (talk) 13:10, 29 May 2020 (UTC) Edit: This seems an especially glaring absences since Nixon has her own section despite being written out of the comic and replaced by Frank as soon as his popularity eclipsed hers. 86.170.30.183 (talk) 13:16, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Added. Richard75 (talk) 14:40, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

More real world info[edit]

I think that we should try to add more real world info to each character, such as where and when they first appeared and which writer and artist created them. It's too much to do all at once, but we could do a few entries at a time. Richard75 (talk) 13:06, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Overlap between Dark Judges and Judge Death[edit]

There is serious overlap between the lead of the section "Dark Judges" and its first subsection "Judge Death". Several paragraphs describing how Judge Death changed from a sadistic trainee Judge to a murderous undead monster are basically repeated in both sections. At least one section should be seriously trimmed. JIP | Talk 20:28, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, or we could merge them into one entry. Richard75 (talk) 20:49, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
