Untitled[edit]

It's not clear what 'designated at the national level' actually means - it is likely to be more meaningful in some countries than others. Some geoparks in the list are simply 'self-appointed' (which is fine if that works for them - not a problem) whilst some are only really designated at international level, since there exists no national body within that country with that capability. cheersGeopersona (talk) 21:35, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Despite all the jumping about of the Hong Kong Global Geopark of China, it presumably no longer belongs on this list at all, as it is no longer a 'National' Geopark. As Geopersona asks above, who should be, and not be, on the list, and where should the entries come from. If it should exclude all global and European Geoparks, as the intro sort of suggests, it will benefit from quite a bit of pruning. At one point the intro said 'This list includes areas that include the term 'Geopark' in their names but are not members of either the European Geoparks Network or the UNESCO Global Network of Geoparks.', which at least clarifies what the 'not to be confused with' statement means. US Geoparks[edit]

I could not find any evidence for US geoparks on UNESCO's site... can anyone else? Also, there is a red rock canyon in California and Nevada, but the link under California links to the Nevada location. Any thoughts on this? Is it both, one, or neither? Confused mess?[edit]

Really not sure what this pages amounts to currently. None of the UNESCO geoparks listed under UK would consider themselves as 'national geoparks' - the term is not in use so why include them? The term is in use elsewhere eg in Germany. cheers Geopersona (talk) 06:57, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed all of the items listed under USA as there is no evidence that any of these are in fact Geoparks. Here si the material should anyone provide proof that they are considered to be 'national Geoparks': Arizona

Grand Canyon National Park

California

Nevada

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area^[5]

South Dakota

Badlands National Park^[6]

Utah

Still a mess[edit]

I'd repeat my statement of 2018- I don't think any of the UNESCO Global geoparks would consider themselves as 'national Geoparks' so each of them should be removed from this page - there are quite a few listed here presently from different nations. And others that are not UNESCO Global Geoparks may not consider themselves as national geoparks either. cheers Geopersona (talk) 10:10, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've been bold and removed all of those in the list which were UNESCO Global Geoparks as at summer 2020 - and listed elsewhere. These are specifically not 'national geoparks' (whatever that term may mean) but international. Since the remaining membership is unreferenced, I'd say the rest can be challenged. If someone can define what a 'national geopark' is and find references to show that any which remain in the list fit that definition then that would be good. cheers Geopersona (talk) 16:17, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
