A page similar to this one. List of people from San Francisco, is currently under review as an article for deletion, for reasons which would apply to this article as well. I am conducting an RfC on the talk page of the above-mentioned list to determine whether the concensus agrees on keeping such lists or not. Any and all comments are more than welcome. It's worth having such an index page, especially as a link under the city. The real problem is that we have two such pages. We need to consolidate to one. The other page is called People from Prescott, Arizona.--Pearrari 13:40, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} Actually, there is a Category: People from Prescott, Arizona, which seems to duplicate the application of this page. What is the proper procedure for me to consolodate these two? I'm willing to do the editing... just want to do it the right way.Pearrari 03:27, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I've merged all the content into the category, the Prescott, Arizona page and the John Denny page. I just need to figure out how to remove the page or turn it into a redirect to the category page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pearrari (talkcontribs) 04:14, 9 November 2007 (UTC) Aw shoot... forgot to sign again. Well I found the redirect page, but I'm not sure this works for a category... didn't seem to in preview. Still need coaching... yes, and I am... Pearrari 04:17, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately we can't (to my knowledge) redirect categories. We do regularly keep redundant categories and lists because they have different strengths. Lists can be referenced (more important for controversial things) and have redlinks for articles that don't exist yet. Categories are less obtrusive and provide good exploratory browsing opportunities (from one article, someone might notice a category and ask "now who else is from Prescott?"). More information is at Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and series boxes. If you still want to get rid of the category, then follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion to create a category deletion nomination. Thanks! Didn't know that... just struck me as duplicitous. First time I've run into it. I'll drop it.Pearrari 11:41, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
