Cryptic abbreviations[edit]

This article could be improved with some explanation of the abbreviations, so that Wikipedia readers who are not experts on rowing could tell what size of crew was rowing in the different lines of data. LM4? LM8x???? Please provide a table to explain. Thanks Edison 17:49, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a key for you:

L = Lightweight (without L is open weight)

M = Mens' W = Womens'

1,2,4,8 = Number of rowers in the boat

+ = Coxed boat - = Coxless boat

x = Sculling (without x is rowing)

I don't know wether it would be worth including that in the article or putting it in some sort of template that could be used on other rowing articles as well. --The Spith 18:33, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Key for x, -, and + should be in the article, maybe even L. VoidLurker (talk) 10:02, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a dual description of each record with the boat code and written explanation, I think that should make it clear to readers, 4 years later..Rudolph89talk 12:11, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Split[edit]

When adding this morning's new world best for M4x I notice that there is a column for "split", and the description suggests it is intended to be the 2000m time divided by 4. What value does that add to the article? I would feel inclined to delete that column unless there are strong views in favour of retaining it. As there have been no objections, I've done that. David Biddulph (talk) 12:51, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Listing order[edit]

I suggest reversing the listing order of coxed and coxless times VoidLurker (talk) 10:02, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rename[edit]

Rename this to fix casing? Emesee (talk) 06:18, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That was done. David Biddulph (talk) 12:52, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Link for LW4x[edit]

Can someone change link for the womens lightweight quadruple scull? It previously said lightweight coxless four for the lwtm4x which is wrong, so i changed the name but I didn't know how to change the link. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.0.187.105 (talk) 11:43, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. David Biddulph (talk) 12:48, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

LM2- and W2-[edit]

Those are not world best times to my knowledge [1]. Could someone please correct/revert these edits from February? —MisterSynergy (talk) 10:57, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edits reverted; times have not been recognised by FISA. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:07, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mens 8[edit]

The time for the Mens 8 is incorrect, i watched the race and it is not the right race or the time is wrong, the winners of the world cup 2 2012 was Germany with 5:27 so someone might want to find the correct world record — Preceding unsigned comment added by Patricthagod (talkcontribs) 20:49, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You are talking about the final, but Canada's record time was in the heat: http://www.worldrowing.com/assets/pdfs/WCp2_2012/ROM083901_C73.pdf --David Biddulph (talk) 21:18, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rename; part 2[edit]

Article title: "List of world records in rowing"
First sentence: "In rowing there are not world records due to the huge variability that weather conditions can have on times."

It seems the article title tells a story that is different from the article's prose. Wouldn't List of world best times in rowing be a more appropriate title? Pinging Harper J. Cole, with whom I've just had a chat about this topic. Schwede66 00:42, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That and a redirect from "List of world records in rowing" to "List of world best times in rowing" would seem the best way.--Harper J. Cole (talk) 10:29, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More Concept2 records...[edit]

https://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/racing/records

Consider the above page and its various subcategories. I think these data tables would be a great idea to include—either truncated or as a whole. For instance, the current Wiki has the 24-hour distance record for on-water 8s but individual (which is on this page) indoor is not covered. Thoughts?
