Length of article[edit]

Possibly too long an article: could do with some reorganization.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 06:58, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Split[edit]

I have split the article into one ("Chauncy Maples") for the missionary, with material copied from here, and another, ("SS Chauncy Maples"), for the ship. I have not removed any of the material from the ship article (fearing to lose something useful), and I have not necessarily captured everything here that ought to be moved into the Bishop's article. Wwheaton (talk) 07:34, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Probably because of confusion about the names, we have had some edits about the article on the bishop which had the effect of producing two articles about the ship. I have reverted "Chauncy Maples" to be about the clergyman, leaving "SS Chauncy Maples" to refer to the ship. While there is certainly room for discussion about the choice of names, I believe that the primary article name should be based on the original person (who clearly was and is notable) and his work in East Africa, while the article about the ship should be named as the ship was named, and also should not contain too much duplication about the bishop. Please do not re-scope these articles without consensus on the two talk pages, as it creates confusion and extra work, and some material is duplicated (sometimes inaccurately), while other information and sources may be lost in the editing confusion. Apologies for any confusion I have introduced myself, and thanks to all for their work. Wwheaton (talk) 18:38, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New category?[edit]

I wonder whether we could do with a new category for missionary ships? I just came across John Williams (ship), so there are at least two historic pages that could be included, besides the more recent examples such as MV Logos, MV Doulos, MV Logos Hope. DFH (talk) 12:37, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
