An anonymous editor keeps changing the translation of (א"י), which is more correctly (א״י), to "(PA)", on the basis of Google Lens. I have also seen Google Translate render it "PA", which is mysterious to me as there is nothing remotely like P in it. As almost everyone here knows, the symbol in the middle is a gershayim, indicating an acronym, and the alef-yod is the standard abbreviation for ארץ ישראל = Eretz Yisrael = Land of Israel. So the usual rendering of א״י in English letters is "E.Y.". A secondary issue is that even though the issuing authority is shown on the passport as the "Government of" Palestine, the same is true for both the English and Arabic versions. The caption says "issuing entity" rather than "issuing authority" so as to avoid having to write "Government of" three times. Zerotalk 01:44, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As an aside, although Google Translate does a fairly good job on ordinary sentences, it is hopeless with abbreviations. It frequently misunderstands numbers written with Hebrew letters and almost always gets the year wrong in Hebrew dates. Zerotalk 01:44, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
