It's done. You certainly should have felt free to add it yourself - everyone is an editor! Ccreitz (talk) 22:11, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This fellow had a wide girth: he embraces his contradictions.

Eigenvalue[edit]

The eigenvalue (German: Eigenwert), as a value of the wave function an expression of quantum physics, has nothing to do with the name Eigen, but derives from the German word "eigenes" (an adjective, meaning own), in conjunctions Eigen-. Is this fact worth to be mentioned here? Pro: Manfred Eigen has to do with physics. Contra: In English eigenvalue is written with small initial letter.

In German the analogous situation is different: Contra: Everybody knows about the meaning of eigenes resp. Eigen- and tends to decode the German word Eigenwert (German noun with capital letter) in this direction. --Helium4 (talk) 05:49, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Honours and awards[edit]

A full and accurate list of his Honours and awards can be found here. I do hope more can be added, especially while he's on the Main page. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:09, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Piano[edit]

He played piano at a professional level, gave public performances and gave lectures about music. He performed as piano soloist in a 1991 CD of Mozart piano concertos[1] I don't know whether he released other recordings. Parking this here for possible future use in the article. 2601:644:8501:AAF0:4043:7961:893C:EC1 (talk) 23:28, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Books[edit]

"Perspektiven der Wissenschaft : Jenseits von Ideologien und Wunschdenken" (1991), "Perspectives of science: beyond ideology and wishful thinking", sounds interesting. I don't see an English translation in a quick web search. There are a few other books of his listed on de: but that list is not complete. Maybe I'll look for more, to add to this article. 2601:644:8501:AAF0:4043:7961:893C:EC1 (talk) 00:50, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
