Fair use rationale for Image:Manitas de Plata 2.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Image:Manitas de Plata 2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Esteem by aficionados of flamenco[edit]

I have modified the clause of the opening paragraph saying he continues to be esteemed by aficionados of flamenco. Esteemed by many people he may be be, but in the flamenco world he's always been considered a joke, mainly because the fundamental concept of compás seems to be unknown to him. See for example Donn Pohren's "The Art of Flamenco" (Society of Spanish Studies, various editions).

Paul Magnussen (talk) 23:52, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I've lived in Spain for a few years and I'm going to have to agree with Paul Magnussen, Manitas is appreciated for many things, but not for his guitar skills. But thanks to the hype by association with Picasso he was warped into stardom quicker and further than he merits. FredrikPet (talk) 13:54, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
That's ridiculous! Nobody cares if he doesn't conform slavishly to flamenco stylistic tradition, his guitar-playing skills are admired by guitarists everywhere. Name someone who you think is better.77Mike77 (talk) 18:28, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Mario Escudero
Niño Ricardo
Paco Cepero
Paco de Lucía
Paco Peña
Pepe Habichuela
Pepe Martínez
Ramón Montoya
Sabicas
Tomatito
Or, if you want non-Spaniards:
Ian Davies
David Serva
Ricardo Marlow
Is that enough?
Paul Magnussen (talk) 18:07, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Each of these is a guitarist that "you think is better", and sure, they can play well, but "better" is very subjective. But only a tin-eared dud would say that Manitas de Plata "has always been considered a joke". "JOKE" (sic)!!! Those people must belong to some little clique of tone-deaf cronies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77Mike77 (talkcontribs) 18:57, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Rhythm[edit]

What rules of rhythm did he "disrespect"? Given that he was far better than the rest, maybe the rules needed stretching. Seriously, if one is going to level a criticism at one of the masters of flamenco guitar, one ought to be more specific.77Mike77 (talk) 02:28, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Seriously, if one is going to refer to someone as a master, and far better than the rest, ought not one to have some idea of what the criteria are?
See the article on Flamenco; note the section on Compás, particularly the statement "The compás is fundamental to flamenco. Without it, there is no flamenco."
If you're seriously interested, read The Art of Flamenco by Donn Pohren, or any beginner's flamenco guitar tutor, such as those by Dennis Koster, Juan Grecos or Juan Martín.
Paul Magnussen (talk) 18:24, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
That's correct, Paul Magnussen. I've wikilinked Compás at its first mention in the article.Twistlethrop (talk) 22:35, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
