Requested move 2 March 2019

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: page moved by technical request. wbm1058 (talk) 22:31, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Matt Phillips (footballer)Matt Phillips – Article was moved earlier today from "Matt Phillips" to "Matthew Phillips (footballer)" because user @Loopy30: wished to disambiguate the subject from three other articles known as Matthew Phillips. This is unnecessary, because this subject is primarily known as Matt (75,100 results +West Brom), not Matthew (22,100 results +West Brom). WP:COMMONNAME. I have consequently moved this article to "Matt Phillips (footballer)", but I don't think this disambiguation is necessary because none of the other "Matthew Phillips" appear to be known as Matt. • Support, per rationale. The disambiguation is not needed. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:39, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. If the subject is more commonly known as Matt, then I shall support this move request. The change was made to align the article title with the name in the lead, which should match. As the article page titled "Matthew Phillips" was being used for the rugby player (now moved to Matthew Phillips (rugby player)), it appeared that the Matt Phillips used as a title here here was only at Matt as Matthew was unavailable as a page title. Thanks @Loopy30:. I think the reason for your (understandable) confusion about Matt Phillips is that the first line of the article uses his full name, and not his shorter common name. In the past the first line of the article called him Matthew "Matt" Phillips (e.g. diff in August 2011), but the shortened form was removed in September 2017 (diff) due to WP:QUOTENAME. As suggested by @PC78:, I have listed this at WP:RMT. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 12:32, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
