Move[edit]

01:06, 1 July 2009‎ Brandon (talk | contribs)‎ . . (19 bytes) (+19)‎ . . (moved Meese (band) to Meese)

Requested move 31 January 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Disambiguate. There is a consensus that the band is not the primary topic, but no clear consensus that any other topic is primary. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:31, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

MeeseMeese (band) – I was very surprised to see Meese not redirect to Edwin Meese. This band is quite obscure (maybe even NN) and the short name should redirect to the former US Attorney General. 50.0.136.56 (talk) 19:30, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note (as nominator), I've changed my !vote to reflect In ictu oculi's proposal: move the band article and put the dab page under the short name. 50.0.136.56 (talk) 01:40, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah, good point, I didn't notice the dab page earlier. Will change the nomination. 50.0.136.56 (talk) 01:40, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's okay, I created it because of your RM. There should have been one but the band being moved into the slot meant that mislinks weren't picked up. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:14, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - Statistics say that the band page is more viewed than the river one. The dabpage was created recently as response to this RM. I want to vote on this, but... I need to collect my thoughts, read the pages, and see whether a primary topic for "Meese" exists. George Ho (talk) 02:46, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support original proposal (50.0.136.56, please reconsider supporting your original proposal as well - beware that certain editors do not respect community consensus about WP:PRIMARYTOPIC). The band and all the other Meeses are very obscure compared to AG Meese ; therefore he is clearly the WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT (a topic which "is primary for more than one term" - it is primary for Meese as well as Edwin Meese) for "Meese", and Meese should redirect to the article about him accordingly. --В²C 20:56, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@In ictu oculi: do you agree with В²C about Edwin Meese being the primary target? I'm ok with it either way, but at this point I'm leaning toward В²C probably being right. Since you went to the trouble of making the dab page, can you decide this and make the move? Thanks. 50.0.136.56 (talk) 19:58, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can't really do anything @BrownHairedGirl: closed it in line with what was discussed, not sure where the dab page should have been. No I don't think that Edwin Meese is in the "Mozart" "Stalin" class of people known by mononyms. In ictu oculi (talk) 20:16, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, @In ictu oculi. I was waiting for templates to purge and hadn't finished the move, then forgot about it. I have just done the final tidyup, so the dab page is now at the bare title. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:21, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WP:PRIMARYTOPIC or WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT does not require one to be in the "'Mozart' or 'Stalin' class of people known by mononyms"; the only requirement is to meet the primary topic criteria laid out at WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, which Edwin Meese clearly meets for Meese. We're not supposed to look at how well known a person is by the Meese mononym. We're supposed to consider the likelihood that someone searching with "Meese" is looking one particular use of Meese rather than any of the others. The others are so obscure relative to this one, this should be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, IIO does not accept community consensus about primary topic and how it applies in cases like this, and the expression of his view is often disruptive to making what should be straightforward decisions. -В²C 23:58, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This issue is probably controversial enough to warrant a separate RM, so I created one at Talk:Meese. --В²C 00:22, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
