MegijimaMegishima – This article should be renamed to be Megishima, because it is written "めぎしま" in hiragana in Japan - that means it should be written "Megishima" in English. See Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's official site. miya (talk) 16:28, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MegishimaMegi Jima – A more reliable source for MEGI"JI"MA is found after the last request (above). Last time I requested move from Megijima to Megishima, but I found GAZETTEER OF JAPAN by the Government of Japan(the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, and the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department of the Japan Coast Guard) based on the resolution of the United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names, which authorizes "Megi Jima" (see GAZETTEER OF JAPAN (p.45). "しま/じま" (Shima/Jima) means an "island". miya (talk) 08:06, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I strongly oppose inserting a space in the name. If you look at that list, a space is inserted in almost every name, so it is not a good example.
I am not surprised that different Japanese ministries give different "official" spellings. The Japanese wiki says that "shima" is the official name (quoting the MILT source), but notes that it is often pronounced "jima". I think it should remain the same, with our article also noting the difference when pronounced (if we can find a source for the claim). AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 02:05, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Japanese wiki is now corrected as the result of "GAZETTEER OF JAPAN" by the Government of Japan 2007 as well as the mails from Japanese officials(the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, and the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department of the Japan Coast Guard's contacts) replying to our questioning mails.--miya (talk) 23:57, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And now the MILT source(しまっぷ) is now also corrected to "めぎじま" probably because of our questioning mails.--miya (talk) 00:04, 28 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. I can see arguments for restoring the original spelling of "Megijima", as used by the official sources in the article, but "Megi Jima" appears to be just an idiosyncratic spelling used in one source. --DAJF (talk) 02:26, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • I see. This is English Wikipedia and I am not familiar to its naming rules. Would you please make a comment to Talk:Ogishima or rather make a move?--miya (talk) 16:54, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
