this is a duplicate of 'midbrain'

'midbrain' and 'mesencephalon' are the same thing --

Should this be in Category:Brainstem instead of in Category:Cerebrum? This would be consistent with the list of regions in the human brain. Courtland 03:45, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Can the caption of the lower half of the diagram at the upper right corner of the page (the "coronal section") be clearer as to the orientation, that is, which sides of the diagram are front/back, left/right and/or top/bottom? Thank you. 23:19, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Cerebral Peduncle[edit]

This part is written so poorly, I'm unable to clean it up myself. Can someone please have a look at it? Preferably with a sturdy broom.

I would like to second that! This section is very poorly written and needs to be reviewed and revised to be understandable. English, people! Adamlankford (talk) 23:05, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Hard To Understand[edit]

I'm just trying to review over my psychology notes quickly and this article is incredibly difficult to understand. Way too many scientific words used that don't link to explaining articles. Is it possible we could dumb this article down a bit? Predator47 (talk) 19:23, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

MesencephalonMidbrain — Should we make the title of this article less technical, or is that not necessary? Bwrs (talk) 06:21, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

  • Support - Suggested title is more descriptive, and Wikipedia prefers common names to scientific names according to WP:COMMONNAME. Not only that, but midbrain is widely used in a scientific context. Midbrain is just easer to understand. Just make sure to capitalize the "m" o.k.? --WikiDonn (talk) 21:27, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Support. Midbrain has 33 occurrences in the Corpus of Contemporary American English (of which 11 in the "academic" section alone) and 33 in the British National Corpus. Mesencephalon has one occurrence in the COCA and none in the BNC. Thus, WP:COMMONNAME applies. ― A._di_M.3rd Dramaout (formerly Army1987) 21:52, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Support Google Scholar finds 40,100 hits for mesencephalon, but 349,000 for midbrain. Google Books (mostly textbooks) has 369 for mesencephalon and 456 for midbrain. Anthony (talk) 22:39, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Support. Works for me. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:58, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Request for expansion[edit]

This article gives an adequate treatment of the origin and structure of the midbrain, but needs more information on its functions. Bwrs (talk) 06:25, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
