Salt Tax?

[edit]

So did they really tax salt? As salt is quite abundant and cheap and you can get by without using it, how did it cause a riot? Could the answer be added to the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.72.52.89 (talk) 17:36, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction

[edit]

"All these problems came to a head on 1 June 1648, upon Alexei I’s return to Moscow from the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra monastery in the Ukraine." The monastery is to the northeast of Moscow, while "Ukraine" generally refers to an area to the southwest. This is clearly wrong. Calbaer (talk) 23:56, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
