Origin[edit]

How long has the term Museum Mile been in use? ProfDEH (talk) 05:08, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Since 1959?[edit]

This article states that the new African museum on 110th will be the newest on Museum Mile since the Guggenheim in 1959. Doesn't the Museo del Barrio date after 1959? I think the Bloomberg quote from the original article is saying that it's the newest museum constructed, which is a bit different. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.165.13.82 (talk) 00:21, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

It's 9 not 10 plus Afrcan Art[edit]

see their official site, for confirmation. African Art, when/if it opens, will be the 10th. Frick and Museums below 82nd may be considered affiliates but are not part of the Mile. I've tried to cite in all key areas. Also updated African Art info. StarM 03:24, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Official list[edit]

Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is the point of having an official list as opposed to including all museums within the Museum Mile? What is this official list and why doesn't it say in the beginning of the article that this article is specifically about some official list and doesn't include all museums on the Museum Mile? --Hatteras (talk) 21:34, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Museum Mile, New York City reflects the Museums that are officially within the mile. Museum Mile is more than a mile in distance but it has an official distinction. Museums that aren't part of the Mile aren't allowed to participate in the Mile's programming. The info is in the link. If this was about a generic stretch, anything could be included but this is an official stretch of designated museums. The mile begins at 82nd, Ukranian Institute is at 79th and therefore, not part of the mile discussed here StarM 14:53, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
A further thought. What about a larger list of 5th Avenue Museums if you want somewhere to include those Museums that are on 5th but not on the Mile. I believe there's also a Czech Museum as well as the Frick and the Ukraininan> Could be an option. StarM 12:01, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Are the cultural programs of the organization known as "The Museum Mile" really what people mean when they talk about the Museum Mile? It seems to me that, in typical usage, the museum mile would include the Frick, and would not include semi-obscure museums at the very northern end of the park. The Frick ought to be at least mentioned in some capacity somewhere in the article, shouldn't it? john k (talk) 13:57, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
