Spelling of the name[edit]

I suggest that it should be Muttuswami or Muttuswāmi. This would be both phonetically correct, in line with Tyagaraja, and also in line with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Indic). Imc (talk) 21:00, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioning Caste[edit]

Dear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.
Your views on this are also welcome here or at the India portal. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 11:22, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not here, please. There is a community discussion taking place at WT:INB and I would advise people to read the entire discussion before forming an opinion because the above summary is incorrect. Nothing more need be said here. - Sitush (talk) 01:21, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copy edit suggested and few more details regarding his Carnatic music prowess, literary prowess in multiple languages can be added. VasuVR (talk) 04:57, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Propose to remove all audio links[edit]

This famous composer's compositions have been rendered by 100s of musicians. As per the norms for external links, unless there is a unique information pertaining to this article, external links should not be included. From that perspective, favoring one link over 100s of others is not the right think for an encyclopedic article.

Moreover, any inclusion of one musician's rendering will bring in POV links from fans of other musicians. Hence, from that view point too, I propose we remove all audio links, especially from YouTube or other big video/audio sites.

I agree and  Done (before I saw your proposal). As mentioned on your talk page, what this article and many others in the Carnatic music space sorely need are reliable supporting sources. Cheers.—Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 17:06, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sundaram Iyer[edit]

@VasuVR: I have taken the liberty of editing the references to use the {{sfn}} template as it is cleaner and easier to modify. Could you please check the book to see if it has an ISBN somewhere? There also appears to be a second edition available. If yours is the first edition, please note this in the citation along with the language used which is presumably Tamil. Please keep an eye out for English references as well if possible. Thanks :)

Current issues[edit]

Besides the fact that the current structure of the article leaves a lot to be desired, there are a number of issues with the article:

  • There are far too many unreliable references being used: blogs, youtube videos, random websites, etc. Even the newspaper sources ought to be avoid as much as possible. I can see that there are plenty of reliable sources on Dikshitar available both online and offline. Besides Google Books, there are also some sources that appear useful available on JSTOR.
  • Many sections and claims are completely unreferenced.
  • The intro should summarise the article. There are currently unreferenced bits in the intro that find no mention or explanation in the main body.
  • Parts of the article use peacock terms such as "brilliant", "grandeur" that need to be removed.
  • Navagraha Kritis should be merged into the compositions table. There are also a few discrepancies between the two lists.
  • As seen in Navagraha Kritis, IAST or a simplified transliteration needs to be used in the compositions table rather than the pseudo H-K system being used at the moment.
  • Ragas need to be linked to their articles. Is the year of each composition unavailable?

Thanks.—Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 14:13, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
