1974 Sweet Sixteen[edit]

New Mexico made the Sweet Sixteen of the 1974 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, but this page does not show that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.180.23.74 (talk) 16:39, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

NCAA Media Guide: "Sweet 16 Records begin in 1975, the first year that all teams in the tournament would be required to win at least one game to advance to the Sweet 16." Please see the archived section, Talk:New_Mexico_Lobos_men's_basketball/Archive_1#Sweet_16. Laszlo Panaflex (talk) 17:43, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This has been discussed at length at the CBB Project, and the consensus is to include all appearances among the final sixteen teams since 1951. Numerous schools count Sweet Sixteen appearances dating back to 1951. An individual school's decision about how/whether to count a given appearance is not material to whether it will be noted on that team's Wikipedia page. I am restoring the prior entries in accordance with CBB Project consensus. João Do Rio (talk) 01:58, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
