Random murders[edit]

I removed the following line, added by User:DiligentDavidG:

"These murders have not been linked to the mining company (El Salvador is one of the most violent countries in the world, with on average 12 homicides reported each day in a country of 5.8 million people [1])."

I believe the sources link the murders to PRMC in a journalistic way. This last line seems to imply that the murders discussed in the article are (or could be) random, based on the latest national crime statistics. While the source you use is no doubt credible, it actually has nothing to do with the topic of the article, and is original research, or at best, synthesis. While the article is far from perfect and can use a great deal of expansion and balance, this is not the way to go about it. -Etafly (talk) 11:53, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whether the mine, or other interests murdered these people was made a central topic of the article by the original author. My addition was not "original research", it quoted on-line articles, and was not synthesis as I drew no conclusion, only presented additional fact (that there is no official linkage drawn in the other references, and that this is a very violent country) for the reader to make a decision. However, don't want to get into an argument and there is lots of material that counterbalances the bias of the original article, so I have cited other material. (and I do appreciate members who scrutinize articles - you nudged me to improve it) DiligentDavidG (talk) 14:36, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I came here out of curiosity re finding the link on your talkpage and followed the link to that report. It's now a 404, is there a fresh one or is it gone from their site? I also noted who it's from and must ask if you are one of the associates mentioned, or connected to any of its constituent groups?Skookum1 (talk) 02:39, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
