Palaeosauriscus should be merged with Paleosaurus in order to create a taxobox for Paleosaurus and because of the note that Palaeosauriscus is now synonymous with Paleosaurus. 72.194.116.63 20:07, 7 April 2007 (UTC) Vahe Demirjian 7 April 2007 14.07[reply]

Merge the page Palaeosauriscus with Paleosaurus. Palaeosauriscus is actually a junior synonym of Paleosaurus. Moreover, Palaeosaurus sternbergi was renamed Sphenosaurus by Hermann von Meyer in 1847, and Palaeosaurus diagnosticus is now a junior synonym of Efraasia minor (Yates, 2003). Finally, Palaeosaurus fraserianus is likely to be an indeterminate archosauriform.

According to what I've read, only one of the species assigned to Paleosauriscus is "Paleosaurus". Since there are three species, I think it would be inappropriate to merge it into an article which only deals with Paleosaurus. Firsfron of Ronchester 05:23, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No. Palaeosaurus sternbergi was renamed Sphenosaurus von Meyer, 1847, the original name (Palaeosaurus Fitzinger, 1840) being pre-occupied by Palaeosaurus Geoffrey Saint-Hillaire, 1833 (see http://dml.cmnh.org/2000Apr/msg00666.html, http://dml.cmnh.org/2000Apr/msg00668.html, http://dml.cmnh.org/2002Apr/msg00630.html, http://dml.cmnh.org/2002Aug/msg00273.html). Palaeosaurus fraserianus is based on a tooth and has been considered an indeterminate sauropodomorph by Galton and Upchurch (2004) but may be an indeterminate archosauriform. Palaeosauriscus was a replacement name for Palaeosaurus Riley and Stutchbury, 1836 by Kuhn (1959). Paleosaurus cylindrodon was designated the type species of Palaeosauriscus by Kuhn (1965). Additionally, Palaeosaurus diagnosticus is a synonym of Efraasia minor (Yates, 2003). See http://www.ville-ge.ch/mhng/paleo/paleo-pdf/26-2/pal-26-2-07-1.pdf and http://www.ville-ge.ch/mhng/paleo/paleo-pdf/26-2/pal-26-2-07-2.pdf for information on Palaeosauriscus, which is why the Palaeosauriscus page should be merged with the Paleosaurus page.
