Competing Stores; The Loss of 'Tripler's'[edit]

Yes, true... Back in the 1980's, but no doubt throughout much of the post WW2 era, there were the competing American clothier's along Madison Ave. in NYC: Brooks Brothers, Paul Stuart, and J. Press. But there existed other clothiers of note too, one of which was "Tripler's". I cannot remember whether they had a corner store, but believe they did. Someone has recently informed me that they unfortunately went out of business, yet they were perhaps the most 'classic' of all the stores, imo, in a stylistic sense, and which may have hurt them financially. I have no idea of the literal reason for their demise. ... But they were less aggressive to market, unlike Brooks Brothers and Stuart, even Press, in the 1980s. Ralph Lauren, who was a latter addition to this area (circa 1986), was, and is, of course hugely successful in marketing. But in quality, 'Tripler's' was right there with all the rest. (John G.
