Paul Young (Sad Café)Paul Young (Mike + The Mechanics, Sad Café) — It's true he was in Sad Café but he is more famous for being in Mike + The Mechanics, so shouldn't the title read: Paul Young (Sad Café, Mike + The Mechanics)?

This would provide better search results for people who are looking for this Paul Young and not the other Paul Young of "Wherever I lay my Hat" fame. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Young

This is very relevant at the moment because Paul Young of Mike + The Mechanics and Sad Café although dead has a new album titled "Paul Young Chronicles" which has been produced using material recovered from the musicians home studio, and the album features members of Genesis and 10cc.

Featured famous musicians: Paul Carrack: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Carrack Mike Rutherford: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Rutherford Eric Stewart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Stewart Graham Gouldman: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_Gouldman

I hope the title can be changed as I feel this will help others who are searching for info relating to this musician and his new material. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.62.25.74 (talk) 12:49, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Above request placed on behalf of this user, following request [1] [2] - without offering any opinion on it.  Chzz  ►  18:25, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose this request as the disambig is too specific but support move to Paul Young (singer born 1947). – ukexpat (talk) 21:29, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and second suggestion about, per WP:PRECISION.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 11:50, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I certainly think naming at least one of his bands is going to make the subject more recognizable to people than giving his date of birth (how many people, even among those who've heard of him, know he was born in 1947?) If he's better known for being in Mike and the Mechanics, we could use that as the disambiguator instead of Sad Cafe. Generally we don't double up disambiguators, especially when one of them is sufficient to disambiguate the subject, though I wouldn't be particularly strongly opposed to doing so in this case. --Kotniski (talk) 14:54, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's better: "Paul Young (Mike + the Mechanics)" Juan Marley (talk) 06:38, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Young (Sad Café and Mike + The Mechanics singer)Paul Young (singer, died 2000) – The previous RM decided not to add "Mike + The Mechanics". However, since then, the title went through multiple changes until the current title, which goes against the decision in the previous RM. Roman Spinner should explain the reason for not enforcing the consensus. Alternatively, I can propose other titles, like Paul Young (singer, born 1947), Paul Young (band singer), Paul Young (band singer, died 2000), or Paul Young (band singer, born 1947). Maybe, if no consensus was reached, per WP:TITLECHANGES, revert back to either Paul Young (singer and percussionist) when the article was no longer tagged as a stub or Paul Young (Mike + The Mechanics) when the article gained substantial information before another sudden title change. His solo albums were posthumous as he didn't establish his solo career in his life, like the other Paul Young, who also participated in bands before his solo career, so I wouldn't fully support just "(band singer)". • As cumbersome as the current title seems, it's probably the most helpful for readers not looking for the other singer Paul Young. Expecting readers to know that the singers were born in 1947 or 1956 is asking a bit much. Assuming that readers know that one Paul Young is dead and the other still alive is likewise a stretch. Knowing that this Paul Young, famous for his vocals, was also a percussionist is not likely either. Finally, "band singer" doesn't even really make sense. Any other options? —  AjaxSmack  14:23, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Paul Young (singer, born 1947). that's the standard disambiguation in these cases. Considering the other Young is at the basename it is hard a normal reader would confuse them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tbhotch (talkcontribs) 17:09, 15 May 2016‎ (UTC)[reply]
  • Over three years ago, on April 13, 2013, I moved this entry's main header from Paul Young (singer born 1947) to Paul Young (Sad Café and Mike + The Mechanics singer), where it has remained [as of this writing]. Admittedly, this title seems too close to Paul Young (Mike + The Mechanics, Sad Café), that was proposed in the earlier RM initiated April 25, 2011, for which there was no consensus, and I offer my apologies for the undiscussed 2013 move. In fact, judging by the comments, both from 2011 and the current discussion, even though any move affecting the parenthetical qualifier applied to this Paul Young would need to be discussed, consensus, if any, is likely to be mixed. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 20:49, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay, Roman. You can fix this by telling us your position about this proposal if you please. This is George Ho actually (Talk) 00:41, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your understanding, George. Had I left well enough alone after Paul Young (Sad Café) was moved in February 2013 to Paul Young (singer born 1947), we probably wouldn't be having this discussion, since professions with birth years constitute the most frequent default qualifiers within Wikipedia's main title headers. There are legitimate qualms regarding the "born" qualifier, as expressed in 2011 by 188.62.25.74 as well as Kotniski and now, in 2016, by AjaxSmack. Because I was the one who made the most recent move, in 2013, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to vote for the retention of my own move, but if this page were to be moved, the least objectionable qualifier would probably still have to be the most commonly used one, Paul Young (singer born 1947)/Paul Young (singer, born 1947), while continuing to take into account the understandable misgivings about finding a satisfactory description. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 11:49, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
