Comment[edit]

On her grave at Find-A-Grave it says 1910. Lincher 04:05, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So many actresses lied about their real birth year. According to the 1910 and 1920 Censuses, her birth year is 1907. The United States Federal Censuses are a better source of information than what other people have put on here. They keep changing the year although my references should stand up to theirs.Stutzey (talk) 17:10, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What's wrong with the math on this ??[edit]

There's something askew with these dates...

Peggy Shannon was a film and stage actress in the 1920s and 1930s. She was born Winona Sammon in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on January 10, 1910.

In 1923, at approximately age 17, Peggy becomes the latest edition to the Ziegfeld Follies.

Actually, both the 1910 and 1920 Censuses for Pine Bluff, Arkansas clearly state that she was born in 1907. That is actual documentation and proof that she was born in 1907. That should be sufficient evidence that would put the matter to rest. It does not take a rocket scientist just to go and view both Censuses. How can you dispute two United States Federal Censuses? Actresses lied about their age all the time.````Stutzey (talk) 20:27, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another math problem[edit]

She would sometimes work 16 hour days (from 10AM to 4AM the next day) while shooting the film, and when shooting wrapped would rush to begin another film.

Sounds more like an 18 hour day to me.

Birthdate[edit]

There has been some dispute over what year she was born, exactly. It is very likely that she lied about the year of her birth when she joined the Ziegfeld Follies. A newspaper from 1923 reported that she was 17, though that is false.

Since it's highly unlikely there will be a definitive and final source for Shannon's DOB, I went ahead and stated 1910 as the year - sans the question mark - since that's what on her grave. Her other possible DOBs (1907 & 1909) are listed in prose in the article with a source. Pinkadelica 07:16, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On the 1910 and 1920 Censuses, both state that she was born in 1907. I will post both of them shortly.Stutzey

Actually, these are better sources. They are legal documents done by the government.Stutzey (talk) 01:45, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited the article to read that Shannon's DOB was in fact 1907 because leaving the content as 1910 with a question mark while claiming the census states 1907 without bothering to cite it is nonsensical. While I haven't seen the census myself, there are various sources to back up the 1907 DOB which is sufficient. The article also states that other sources list her DOB as 1909 and 1910, so I believe this should cover all bases regarding this issue. Pinkadelica 06:11, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For your information, I did cite the Census information in the references, but you took it out in June when I tried to update the article. You said that it was messing up the article. Therefore, I did little as possible this time to the article although I mentioned the Censuses. I did not put the question mark there originally, because it was already there before I put it back to 1907. Then I put it back the way it originally was (1910?), because I knew it would probably upset a few editors. You can find the Censuses for Peggy Shannon at: https://beta.familysearch.org/s/recordDetails/show?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fpilot.familysearch.org%2Frecords%2Ftrk%3A%2Ffsrs%2Frr_289373765%2Fp_305402062&hash=MPAfKvgWGXfZ5STyuqUCQxOVNk8%253D. I just found that site.I already posted the Census information from the 1910 and 1920 Censuses from Ancestry.com which is above your post. They won't let you post the actual documents unless you want to spend a lot of money even if you are a member.Stutzey (talk) 00:45, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't accuse you (or anyone else for that matter) of doing anything wrong so the "for your information" remark in the beginning of your post is wholly unneeded. I also didn't say you messed up the article - please do not put words in my mouth. I actually said that you removed content and did not cite the content you added properly. Big difference. Additional sources are rather moot at this point as there are already two different sources to support the current DOB. Ancestry.com links have a tendency to experience link rot which is why I don't use them. Pinkadelica 09:19, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you check the Marguerite Marsh article and check the references to see if they are cited properly? I see different types of references all the time on this site. You helped me with the references for Corinne Griffith, and this stuff gets confusing.Stutzey (talk) 16:31, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
