First actor as onscreen avatar[edit]

Wasn't it proceeded by Dark Seed, years earlier in 1992? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.88.64.193 (talk) 14:54, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

First Gay Kiss?[edit]

Was Phantasmagoria 2 the first FMV game with a gay kiss? Also the article says first "playable" bisexual character. Does anyone know if a bisexual character before Curtis? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thom Denick (talkcontribs) 19:52, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

There really was no gay kiss in this game. Curtis was stopped by his friend Trevor before a kiss was made. Trevor told Curtis that he didn't feel those kinds of feelings for him. That he only loved him as a friend. Comment added by Wendy S. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.69.137.40 (talk) 17:19, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

"Force fed animal entrails?"[edit]

"(Remotely connected to their favorite occupation - for example, in one of the most controversial film sequences the chubby Regina is force fed animal entrails through a funnel until she suffocates.)"

Granted it's been 11 or 12 years since I played the game, but this part doesn't sound right at all. I remember a sequence where Zoltan force fed his wife dirt using a hand trowel, but there wasn't a funnel involved... much less animal entrails.

And I'm not sure what "chubby" is indicating. If she was pregnant I think that would be the preferable adjective, or if not, it could be left out. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.98.46.66 (talk) 00:57, 11 January 2007 (UTC).

Well, I seem to recall a pretty disgusting sequence in which Zoltan does indeed stuff entrails through a funnel into Regina's (I assume) mouth, naming each of the delicacies before forcing them down the funnel. The greenhouse death scene involved another of Zoltan's wives. I remember two more: one involving a scene in the dining hall and the other taking place in the attic, where a torture device constructed by Zoltan stood. Funny how these things remained in my memory after all these years, but I'm pretty sure what's in the article is correct. I assume "chubby" refers to Regina's obesity (hence the method of killing mentioned). Cromag 06:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes another one was about to toast her husband(she was an alcoholic)but Zoltan grabs her head and pushes it through the glass bottle.Another wife is put in a trap where she is held in a cruxifixtion stature and her head is twisted past its limits(similar to the Rack Trap in Saw 3.Playboyoreo 06:02, 3 August 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Playboyoreo (talkcontribs)

What was edited out of Phastasmagoria 2?[edit]

Phantasmagoria is still my favourite computer game of all time and I still play it today. Was just reading this article and it says that the UK version was severely cut compared to the US version. Was just curious, what was edited out of the UK version that appears in the US version?

Article has a few flaws[edit]

This article has some design flaws which are not to standard with other Wiki titles, which aren't to my design expertise, but if someone could stylize it properly, it'd be much appreciated by everyone.

I also edited the article's wording and terms to make it seem more formal and less like it is a detailed summary on a fan-site. It was full of weasel wordings and opinionated type text; using "probably" a lot, for example.

The plot overview and the text itself, in general, is pretty well written and is now better because of the weasel word edits but it can be a lot better than it is. All good contributions should be made! Theseven7 09:36, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

I should have this to you by tomorrow Jaguar 20:46, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Initial comments[edit]

  • "released by Sierra On-Line" - I own older Sierra games and I could swear that they were only known as "Sierra On-Line" in the 80s, didn't they change their name to just "Sierra" when this was released?
    • Most of the sources I found from 1995 refer to "Sierra On-Line" so I believe that is their name. Most of these sources are offline, but as an example, here is an online 1995 sources that calls it by this name. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • The lead could be slightly better organised and could also be compressed ideally into three paragraphs (though if you want to keep the four paragraphs, that's fine as the article is lengthy)!
    • I've tried to keep the lead as succinct as possible given the length of the article, and I tried to present the info in chronological order as its presented in the article itself. I know it's a long lead, but WP:LEADLENGTH says a lead should be "three or four paragraphs" for an article over 30,000 characters like this one, so I think it's appropriate. That being said, are there any specific elements you feel should be cut, condensed or reorganized? — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
      • Thanks, I think I was being too picky - the lead should be good for this GAN (though things might change if you want to take it to FAC) Jaguar 15:07, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
  • There are no release dates in the lead?
    • I didn't include it because I thought the lead was already lengthy, and it was covered by the infobox. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
      • I see WP:VG/GL specifically says the lead should contain the release date, so I've now added it. — Hunter Kahn 23:17, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • The lead mentions nothing on a plot of the game (if you want to include it, the plot could easily go into the first paragraph)
    • I've added a sentence about the plot, though if it can be improved I'm open to that. :) — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • Sierra On-Line is mentioned again in the Gameplay section - if I'm wrong about the whole thing then please leave it be!
    • As per above, I think it's right. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • "The term referring to a 17th-century theatrical horror show in which "spirits of the dead"" - refers
    • Fixed. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • "The game developers realized early that the game could not be completed entirely in-house due to the large scope of the project" - this might read better as The game developers realized early during development that the game could not be completed entirely in-house due to the large scope of the project
    • Changed. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • "The only actor she was not involved with choosing was Victoria Morsell as the protagonist, Adrienne Delaney" - so did Mark Seibert choose her?
    • Yes. To make this more clear, I changed the wording to "The only actor that Siebert chose without Williams' input was Victoria Morsell..." — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • "The total filming took about four months, 12 hours a day. shooting six days a week" - syntax error (missing comma)
  • "There was no legislated rating system for computer games in place" - worldwide or just in the US?
    • I believe this refers to the United States. I've clarified. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • " It also encouraged parents to review the material before providing it to children and asked retailers not to tell it to minors" - sell
    • Fixed. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
  • "Williams said the company was uncomfortable with the violent content in Phantasmagoria and did not attempt sell the game aggressively as Sierra would have" - they didn't want to sell the first game or its sequel?
    • This refers to the sequel. I've reworded to clarify. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

References[edit]

  • Toolserver picks up no dead links, though I'm not sure what has happened to ref 150...
    • I'm not seeing an issue with that ref. Can you tell me what you're seeing? — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
      • On the toolserver it said it was unavailable but I checked it for real and it worked fine, it must have been a glitch... Jaguar 15:07, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

On hold[edit]

This is an excellent article that is very comprehensive and well referenced. It is well written, broad and is would make a very worthy GA, if not an FA. One of my mentions include some re-organisation of the lead, although I'm actually happy the way it is but it does not contain any release dates or plot details, rather focusing on development. If all of the above can be clarified I'll happily promote this Good article on hold Jaguar 21:19, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

  • Thanks so much for the fast review! I've made changes based on your remarks, and if you think the lead needs more improvement, I'm happy to work on it with you. — Hunter Kahn 22:56, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Close - promoted[edit]

Thank you for addressing them so quickly! The article now meets the GA criteria and as I said above, I think the lead is fine as it does summairse the article well although if you are looking to take this to FAC I'm sure other people would have a say. Anyway, well done, this was an excellent article Good article Jaguar 15:07, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Is this statement correct?[edit]

It states: Phantasmagoria was "Sierra's first computer game targeted to an adult audience". However, the Leisure Suit Larry series produced since 1987 were also adult-themed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.50.1.102 (talk) 19:23, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

GameRankings[edit]

Consensus is to not use GameRankings unless it adds value atop or in the absence of Metacritic I am no longer watching this page—ping if you'd like a response czar 01:43, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Czar, the Metacritic score doesn't even exist anymore. All there is is the archive link to it. If anything we should remove the Metascore and replace it with GameRankings. GamerPro64 13:53, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Metacritic's still the standard, regardless of whether the page is live. Much of our coverage from the 90s is offline or archived. I'd have no contention here if the Metacritic page never existed (or went out of existence), but it does exist (in archived form), so we use it. czar 15:10, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
