wrong list of opponents

[edit]

The list shown here is for the NES version. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.28.184.34 (talk) 19:13, 15 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Reference in Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland

[edit]

It may interest you to know that the same graphics for the top side of the screen from Punch-Out!! were used in a boss fight for Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland.

I took a screenshot proving this. http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/746/tinglespunchout2lw3.png —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.30.2.235 (talk) 20:01, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added more info from previous boxer list and reformatted page

[edit]

I agree with much of the previously deleted strategy info regarding how to play the game, defeat the boxer and detailed specifics of the boxing game play. However since this is a section about fictional boxers (and not characters from an RPG game or a movie or something), some reference to the boxers fighting style, signature maneuvers, mannerisms and difficulty should still be referenced in some way (which I have done). Also fixed minor errors as in Piston Honda/Hurricane mix-up. Characters were given their own sub links as they are referenced and linked to on various other articles in Wikipedia and not having any name specific sub pages breaks all of these links. Lastly I moved the Video Games box to the top, as it is the most important, and added various game titles to the intro text as having 'Arm Wrestling' as the only specific linked game in the text isn't very accurate as to the most important games in the series.pretzolio (talk) 09:04, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This discussion page seems to be linked wrong, but anyway. Reverting back your the previous merge is not warranted. Their were many things left out that have nothing to do with strategy whatsoever, and blatant errors (as in the nameing of Piston Hurricane/Honda). Since pictures are not allowed, some description of the characters is warranted, and these are BOXERS. The info currently on the page is not dealing with strategy on how to play or defeat any of the characters (I did not copy over any of the text regarding strategy. READ the article before you assume and revert it. It simply informs a person of what it should: their mannerisms and boxing style. Details other than what games they appear in are needed. Whomever added all of the strategy info in the previous article, was not me and yes a lot of that had to be changed, and it has been. Also once again I stress that the induvidual character links MUST not be deleted as pages through-out the series and other places in wikipedia link to their specific names, so please provide rationale as to why the links must be deleted before deleting them. Lastly why does someone keep moving the 'gameplay' category to the top of the page? Clearly the video game box listing the games of the series would be the most important.pretzolio (talk) 20:19, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The boxer list needs to go

[edit]

(Since we appear to have a centralized talk page for Punch Out!!...) The boxer list on Punch Out!! needs to go. It's incredibly long, it delves into unencyclopedic (trivial) detail about each boxer, and a lot of the content includes strategy-guide material that would be more suitable for a gaming-specific wiki. A reader not familiar with the series is going to look at that and be overwhelmed with information they don't really care about. As I suggested on WT:VG, we could summarize all of this information with something along these lines: "Punch Out!! pits the player against a series of fictional boxers, each one having his own individual style and strategies. Mike Tyson is the final boss in one game of the series, but the game was later re-released, replacing Tyson with Mr. Dream after Tyson's contract with Nintendo expired." (Mike Tyson's involvement in the franchise is certainly notable and has received pretty extensive coverage, but virtually none of the other characters have.)

Please see the VGProj Article Guidelines for more information on suitable content. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 23:09, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
