Captain Collet Barker[edit]

… was successful with the further development of Raffles Bay… but the ‘ news of the initial’ disastrous initial settlement attempt reached the Colonial office - and orders were sent back to close the settlement down … Barker had by this time established food gardens etc & engaged with local indigenous people….
