Untitled[edit]

I redirected "Raisa Gorbacheva" here ("Raisa Gorbachev"), as that was copy and pasted from the pre-existing "Raisa Gorbachev", and all articles link to "Gorbachev". If it is decided that "Gorbacheva" or something else is the more proper name for the article, please do a proper move and fix the redirects to the right page. -- Infrogmation 00:04, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I have a good friend that is Russian, and she previously told me that the traditional standard is for men's last names to end with the letter 'v', and the women in the family use the same last name, except add an 'a' to the end (EG my friend uses the last name Telnova, because her father's last name is Telnov). However, A) I don't know if Raisa followed this standard, and B) Most people looking for the article probably wouldn't know about the difference, anyway, so I think it's probably OK as is. However the Raisa Gorbacheva article has had several updates since it was created -- it would have been nice if they'd been applied to this version too, which I shall now do. Arwel 01:00, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

This is technically correct, although in English Russian names are usually not feminised in such cases. Also the "yo" transliteration, while fashionable amongst linguists, is not so amongst the general public. --MacRusgail 20:08, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alcoholic?[edit]

Wasn't there media reports that she drank heavily after the break-up of the USSR?

Gorbacheva/Gorbachova[edit]

If Gorbachev's page is not Gorbachov, then this should be Gorbacheva, not Gorbachova. --Simfan34 (talk) 19:58, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First lady?[edit]

1. What is the basis for saying she was first lady?

2. "She was one of the few wives of a communist party leader to have a high public profile of her own." Really? What about Nadezhda Krupskaya, Nina Petrovna Khrushcheva, Jiang Qing, Elena Ceaușescu, Kim Jong-suk, Kim Sung-ae, Margot Honecker etc?--Jack Upland (talk) 06:01, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
