Education Project[edit]

Hello, we are scholarly student editors here to make positive changes <3

Primary minor improvements

Firstly we are looking to add basic improvements to the figures, using information that is readily available on the 'Raising Arizona' IMDb page (as it seems silly to not transfer this information to this page). The budget currently says "$6 million", but we're suggesting that it would be more accurate to have "$6 million (estimated)" written under Budget instead. This will make the information that is currently given clearer and more precise. The figure of Box Office can also be clearer, as it currently says “$29 million” and “$29.2 million” would be more precise. We are also looking to improve the cast section. Currently, the character "Hi"'s name isn't specific enough in the cast section (Nicolas Cage as HI McDunnough), and it is in fact more specific elsewhere in the article (Herbert I. "Hi" McDunnough (Nicolas Cage)). It would be useful to have the character's full name here in the cast section, as it is the place in which this information seems most relevant. We would also look at adding small descriptions for each of the characters, as not all of them are recognisable by the actors that play them so this information would be relevant and useful. In terms of our next improvements, we are also looking to improve bigger sections, particularly the introduction and Production parts of the article, with research. Plus we will be checking the references used in the article to make sure that they are valid. Uma Ghelani (talk) 18:12, 11 February 2018 (UTC)Uma Ghelani[reply]

Hi group. Great to see you've introduced yourselves! Please could you edit the passage above to make sure you include links to your user names and talk pages? I also think that at the moment you seem to be focussing mainly on writing exercises, rather than editing. Try to think about the assignment as an editing project, aiming to improve the scholarly quality of the article as a resource - that means fact-checking and providing high quality sources like peer reviewed articles, books and book chapters. This should help you more than some of the more minor changes you're proposing above. I hope that helps - all best and good luck! DrJennyCee (talk) 22:45, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cast Section Changes

Hi all, I have changed the cast section, adding short descriptions for each character. Our group think this is important information that will help the article become more helpful for people who are looking for quick and easily accessible information on the film. There are no external sources needed for this change, as the film itself is the point of reference for this information. However, we've added a couple of wikipedia article links to help make sure the information given is complete and understandable, like "bounty hunter". Introduction

I have made first changes to the introduction section of the article. I added some more detailed information regarding the main cast and some details regarding the preliminary production of the film (with reference to Lynnea Chapman King's "The Coen Brothers Encyclopedia")

I also deleted the section stating "Not a blockbuster at the time of its release, it has since achieved cult status. In a manner typical of Coen brothers fare, the movie is replete with symbolism, visual gags, unconventional characters, flamboyant camera work, biblical references, pathos, and idiosyncratic dialogue" because it made some very specific claims (applied not only to the film itself but to the Coen brother's filmography as a whole) without backing them up with any references. I have decided instead to reference a passage from Jeffrey Adam's "The Cinema of the Coen Brothers" that describes the film's critical reception at the time of its release, and I quoted both praises and negative critiques. Release

The release information is not detailed. I have added the correct information regarding the release of the film, including dates, location and type of screeningsDilmaL (talk) 13:00, 16 February 2018 (UTC)DilmaL[reply]

Production

I rearranged the Production section, merging the Casting sub-section with the remaining Conception and Filming sub-sections. This was because the information attributed to the Casting sub-section was actually related to one of the other two stages of film production. Thus, the creation of Hunter and Cobb’s roles is now part of the Conception sub-section. I added information regarding John Goodman’s attraction to characters of “great feeling”, his role as Gale Snoat and return as frequent collaborator of the Coen Brothers. I believe this is of great importance considering Raising Arizona’s place as the filmmakers’ second picture. The returning crew members and on-set difficulties with Cobb are now part of the Filming section. Information about the involvement of babies has removed due to inaccuracy of source and little relevance. Adjustments were needed to references in the entire section, of which most were from the same book. I specifically found an alternative source for the lines regarding the relationship between Cage and the Coens.

Taking note from verified Wikipedia pages and considering the little information included in the Release su-sectionsection, I conjoined it with Reception. I moved the less relevant sources, such as RottenTomatoes and CineScore after serious critic reviews. Due to the somewhat dismissive tone of the page towards Raising Arizona (and contrasting praise of other Coen brothers films on Wikipedia), I felt it was relevant to include Ethan Coen’s comment about its financial success when compared to their later work. The references were out of order and many of the hyperlinks were broken, so I restructured that section. I also added an extra contemporary comment on the film from Simon Pegg, and fixed grammatical errors present in the article. JCarland96 (talk) 20:05, 18 February 2018 (UTC)JCarland96[reply]
