Early work

[edit]

The description of his "earliest work" as abstract expressionist is misleading. I will try to come up with a better description. Freshacconci 11:47, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating

[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 07:37, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are many cases of describing Serra's works & practices but not referring to the circumstances or context of these works. Perhaps it would be feasible to link these works to specific exhibitions, sponsors, or curators.(JonathonTWeber41 (talk) 00:24, 26 January 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Pictures of "Promenade" at the Grand Palais

[edit]

In the german version of [[1]] I had left some pictures of this work. May anybody can bind in the pics here? Thanks.--Heliodor1 (talk) 10:15, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone do this, please? --84.56.230.52 (talk) 13:23, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Organization

[edit]

The main section of this article is fairly disorganized, and growing unruly in length. I would like to add some discussion of the 2006 work, Sequence - a work notable enough to have its own article - but it's hard to fit in here. I'm wondering if we should divide it up by broad themes (career history, works, exhibits, personal life) and within each section try to do things chronologically. "Bramme for the Ruhr-District"?

[edit]

The sculpture shown as "Bramme for the Ruhr-District" is titled "Bramme für das Ruhrgebiet" in German. The titling used here is a kind of strange language mix, since Bramme is just the German word for slab (or skelp). Moreover, the Ruhrgebiet is not a district as defined in Districts_of_Germany, though it is indeed often translated as Ruhr district. I'd prefer Ruhr area, or Ruhr region, or simply Ruhr (not to be confused with the name-giving river Ruhr). –Sk2001de (talk) 14:42, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Early Life & Education

[edit]

There is very insightful information relevant and substantial with respect to understanding Serra, however, there are a few comments that might be better suited for another section. As well, there are a few omissions of substantial facts to his early life. In short, perhaps this section would benefit to be split into two separate sections (early life & education.) This may also benefit to allow the benefit of more information without appearing rushed or condensed.(JonathonTWeber41 (talk) 00:18, 26 January 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Large Steel Sculptures

[edit]

Considering the article is organized rather thematically, perhaps it would be advantageous to subdivide this sub-article thematically as well. The projects included are quite extensive and are frequently linked to the proper article pertaining to the location, artist, exhibition, etc. However, this article is discouraging to read because the information is presented rather compact, but with a long area of text. Perhaps if splitting up the sub-article into smaller sections pertaining a relevant theme shared among particular works. As it is presently presented chronologically, this needs not be changed, but rather be divided and have a theme ascribed to a time period for easier referral. Perhaps this will make it easier to expand on the circumstances behind the creation of these works. This will make it easier to draw attention to especially interesting features, and do better justice with considering these works.(JonathonTWeber41 (talk) 00:52, 26 January 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Why no criticism of his work?

[edit]

I am fully aware of the late Serra's towering artistic reputation. Still, it seems that as someone who often produced work that can be termed "minimalist", isn't there many art critics who have challenged the significance of Serra's work-product? I don't follow the avant garde art scene anymore (and never did much even when [1996-2003] covering popular culture for Coagula Art Journal, a publication which often championed minimalism). But surely there are respected critics out there which questioned the creative worth (if not the influence, which is indisputable) of Serra's work, no? I am not quite sure that the approach of surely there are respected critics out there which questioned the creative worth is the most productive one. That said, if there are any specific articles or scholarship you would like to cite, please feel free to do so. Ppt91talk 20:54, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
