Split / enhance[edit]

Most of this article is about a historic Richmond club, but the infobox / header make reference to to current club (formed 1862), which itself is a notable club (plays in ECB Premier League). Should this "new" club have its own article, or should this one be updated to have a few more details (and the header changed to make it clear it refers to current club). I notice that the navbox (Template:Cricket in Richmond upon Thames) at the bottom lists 2 Richmond Cricket Clubs, though both link here, so does this show that someone thought of separating them? Spike 'em (talk) 14:53, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
pinging @BlackJack: and @Headhitter: as those responsible for the page creation and the addition of the current club. Spike 'em (talk) 15:16, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well spotted, @Spike 'em:. We are definitely talking about two different clubs here. I think the historic information should be moved into a new article called something like Richmond Cricket Club (18th century) or Richmond Cricket Club (1720–1805). There is, of course, a notable Aussie grade club with the name too, just to keep things simple! The ECB club should have its own article. Glad to see others' ideas before going ahead with anything. Thanks for the reply. I'd seen the Aussie team, though that has now been renamed so maybe we can reclaim the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, or create a DAB (but that is for another day). As you are more experienced than I am, do you know if this page should be moved to preserve its history (as the original team makes up most of the content) or is a c+p to the new page sufficient? I think the historic club information should be moved into Richmond Cricket Club as it must be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, having held first-class status; and this article should be renamed Richmond Cricket Club (1862) for the ECB club to have its own article. It will have to be a move, not a copy & paste, though I could merge them, I think. Let me look into it and I'll get back to you. Thanks again. Jack | talk page 15:49, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again. I had to do a merge because of the existing redirect malarkey. For the ECB club we need a new article now as this one is a redirect too so I'll create Richmond Cricket Club (1862). Thanks again. Jack | talk page 16:06, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There we go. All done. Thanks again. Jack | talk page 16:25, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
