Flattery vs. Slander...[edit]

Techiegirl2010,

I understand that you are implementing the changes on Ronald T. Burr's page in response to an anonymous editor who is claiming that the article is biased. You feel that this editor's changes are an attempt to slander Burr.

Here are the changes that I have made to this page, and the reason why:

  • I have left the notability warning off. As the co-creator of NetZero, Burr's notability cannot be questioned, and that seems to be the actual bit of slander that the anonymous editor has put on this page.
  • I have created a number of "Citation Needed" tags. As noted in this Talk page, unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately. Instead of removing it, I am giving the benefit of the doubt that there is information out there to back up what is being said in the article. The anonymous editor is right in that it sounds like a bio. Phrases such as "His entrepreneurial spirit showed early..." and "Realizing his true passion is building and operating companies..." are unable to be verified unless he said that in a published article or interview. That includes sources that do not actually state the information provided (the source for "American Truck Outfitters" simply shows that the website exists, not that Burr was employed by the company). Basically, if the information stated can be backed up by sources, then it should stay. If it can't, then it should go. Simple as that.
  • I am leaving off the verbiage about WebVisible being closed due to unpaid debts, as it seems pretty obvious that the anonymous editor's constant inclusion of this verbiage is due to personal reasons (a former employee, perhaps?). However, it should be noted that the information stated was properly sourced and unbiased, and therefore does not constitute as libellous or slanderous language.

Many thanks!
