It might be appropriate to differentiate between the actual Advent Prose (continuing with "ne irascaris"), and the Isaiah text used in the introit both of the 4th Advent Sunday and the Marian "Rorate" Mass (continuing with "operator terra"). Of course there is a connection between the texts, but the first is an expansion of the latter. If I get it right.--88.69.199.78 (talk) 20:03, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Coeli or caeli?[edit]

Regarding the unexpected and undiscussed page move from Rorate Coeli → Rorate caeli, I think it's worth raising the question as to which spelling is considered "correct" – coeli or caeli?. A similar move was discussed at Talk:Regina Coeli and the result was no consensus for a move. So why the move here? Cnbrb (talk) 08:08, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think we can discuss that because there will be supporters for both, and convinced it's the only right way. Waste of time. Both are "correct", both are common, but we have only one article title (but redirects). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:16, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well I think that sums up just about every discussion on Wikipedia. We might as well not bother discussing anything ever! I'm genuinely curious to know which is best, and given that only one editor has made the move, I'd like to query it. Cnbrb (talk) 08:19, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Google search gets 3x more hits for "rorate caeli" over "rorate coeli", so "caeli" is probably preferable here. Beleg Tâl (talk) 17:11, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

O Heiland, Reiß die Himmel auf[edit]

I don't understand the claim that "O Heiland, Reiß die Himmel auf" (completed in the early 1620s) is based on "Rorate Coeli" (first appeared in the 1670s). It's possible that the Latin is in fact based on the German, or that they were developed separately, with neither as basis for the other; but basing one text on another text that won't be available for another 50 years seems ... inadvisable. :) TooManyFingers (talk) 17:13, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
