Eustace Gray[edit]

Eustace Gray was a founder and photographer of the London studio Campbell–Gray. What is the basis for the statement that he was the Brooklands press steward? No such statement is made in the cited article, which merely states, The "Avis" monoplane, built by Howard Wright, and fitted with a 40-h.p. 8-cylinder Jap, latest type, was knocked down to Mr. Eustace Gray for £50.^[1] --Lambiam 18:44, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Here it is stated (unfortunately without source) that Gray was indeed the Brooklands press officer, but also that the machine he bought was the Avis III, not the Avis IV. So this was then the same machine sold to the studio as a prop. --Lambiam 18:58, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Here its is confirmed that he was press secretary at Brooklands. The numbers of Avis machines (one or two) and their numbers (III and IV or just III) still needs to be cleared up. It seems unlikely, though, that the studio had a need for more than one flying machine for use as a prop. --Lambiam 19:05, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
