Thrash metal as derivative of speed metal

I personally view "thrash" metal as derivative of speed metal. I don't recall ever hearing a slow thrash-metal band, but I have heard plenty of speed metal bands that were certainly not thrash.-- goatasaur

Trivia

I'm trying to find out what the lyric is in "Expendable Youth", at about 2 minutes and 32 seconds into the song, just prior to the guitar solo. Doing a quick bit of googling, it is mostly quoted as being "Fight-ring you motherfucker (?)", but it certainly doesn't sound like that to me. No question about the last two words, but the first sounds like it could be "biting" or "blighting". Earlier I had thought it might have even been a reference to King (and thus, the imminent guitar solo). Anyone know what it actually says? fonetikli 22:38, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Parental Advisory

In response to the comment, "Seasons in the Abyss is one of few albums to be issued with a Parental Advisory label despite the virtual unusual absence of profanity unlike other Slayer albums." There are lyrics depicting violent acts. The problem here is that the source is just a news article promoting the band's 'Carnage' tours.

• Seasons in the Abyss (also referred to as Seasons) is the fifth studio album by the thrash metal band Slayer. It was released on October 9, 1990 through Def American Records, and later through American Recordings after the company changed its name. It should be reworded. Seasons in the Abyss is the fifth studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer, released through Def American Recordings, on October 9, 1990.

• "Temptation" (track #8) featured an overdub of lead vocalist Tom Araya's singing, because the first vocal track was not erased between the takes. Simply out of place in the lead section. Anyway, it sounds like fancruft.

• Within its first few years, the album was not available in many stores, solely because of the band's "extreme sound." This sentence is an example of original research, as the source said only that "...the band's extreme sound was distinctly unwelcome at the muisc channel and most of rock-radio outlets, leaving Slayer to develop its intensely loyal following on the road."

• As an experimental album full of several elements, it "fuses its two predecessors," South of Heaven and Reign in Blood. This is just an unencyclopedic opinion of someone that contradict itself. According to Allmusic: Essentially, Seasons fuses its two predecessors, periodically kicking up the mid-tempo grooves of South of Heaven with manic bursts of aggression. [...] Since the band is refining rather than progressing or experimenting, Seasons doesn't have quite the freshness of its predecessors, but aside from that drawback, it's strong almost all the way from top to bottom (with perhaps one or two exceptions).

Lead

• Would be better to improve the lead a bit. Try and add more info from the body into it. The lead is supposed to talk briefly about most of the article.
• The entertainment Weekly and Allmusic info doesn't belong there, it belongs in the critical reception section. You should use the extra space to write more about the background and any other info. 2 full paragraphs seems appropriate.

Recording and production

• two separate places -> studios.
• Seasons in the Abyss was produced by Rick Rubin. It is their third album to be produced by Rubin. -> try to not cut the sentences up so much, it reads weirdly. Try and include both in one sentence.
• "Temptation" (track #8) -> indicate it in the text, not parentheses
• This paragraph needs significant re-writing

Musical styles and lyrical themes

On a whole, this section is a mess. It really looks like a continued "reception" section. It should dedicate specifically to the theme of the section, discussing the music and the meaning of its lyrics. ot calling it a "masterpiece" etc.

Release and reception

• You should give more info of the certifications, such as the RIAA certified it denoting shipment of 500K etc. Same goes for Canada.

• you should place them in order.
• you should make a separate column for certifications.

Certification?
