Pronunciation
[edit]Anyone know the correct pronunciation of the name (seb-ring or see-bring)? It seems that car is named after the track, which is named after the town, but none of the topics have the pronunciation. Leejc 20:57, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- I've never heard it pronounced the first way, always as see-bring, and I've lived in Florida for 40 years, for what that's worth. --Ebyabe 01:27, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
External Links
[edit]I went and removed a raft of external links for radio stations not in Sebring (including an internet-based radio station), a youth-wrestling group, and the Tampa Tribune, which is available through the wikilink in the Media section. I left the two Sebring papers (Highlands Today and the News-Sun), the Chamber of Commerce, the library, and Sebring High School. I considered removing the High School, but left it in for now because there is no education section discussing the schools in the city. When the article gets expanded (and it will get expanded), the school link will not be necessary any longer. Let's not let the external links for a smallish city occupy a significant chunk of the entire article. Horologium t-c 18:00, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Expansion
[edit]I have begun a major expansion on this article. I started with an infobox and a minimal history section (which desparately needs to be beefed up.) I will be adding government, education, economy, transportion, and sites of interest sections this weekend, and would appreciate any suggestions for filling out this article. I was a bit surprised to see how many historic areas have stubs written up; it looks like one of the Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places editors went through and added all of them, which is a good thing. There's nine in all, which will make a nice section for the sites of interest section. Horologium t-c 20:21, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Highlands County Fl Seal.png
[edit]The image Image:Highlands County Fl Seal.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

2019 shooting
[edit]I think it is appropriate that the 2019 mass shooting in the city should have a mention in the article. While it is incredibly unfortunate that a small city should have part of their article dedicated to a tragedy like this, it seems like it would simply be an unjust omission to not include it. Other American cities and communities which have had incidents of mass gun violence occur have mention of it on their article. One of the reasons cited for removing it was the size of it, and that can be reduced. @PageEditor2001
Examples of American communities with mentions of mass gun violence in their articles: El Paso, Texas, Sutherland Springs, Texas, Orlando, Florida, Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Cleveland, Texas. Raskuly (talk) 07:33, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
