Chain of Command[edit]

Awesome work from HLGallon filling out the Axis order of battle. But I'm a bit confused. Nowhere in the Second Battle of El Alamein text or in the Panzer Army Africa article is there any mention of an Italian Army Africa, nor is there an article on this formation but here it is in the order of battle implying a separate entity. The Panzer Army Africa article shows the Italian Corps as being under Rommel's Panzer Army HQ whereas this order of battle doesn't. Which is correct? My source is Alamein, C.E. Lucas Philips, Pan Books, 1965, ISBN 0 330 30011 3 . The Italian forces are definitely listed under their own HQ, but this was probably an administrative headquarters only. Rommel's Panzer Army Afrika had tactical control of all formations in the desert. I'll try and make this clear in the article. HLGallon 23:16, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Commando Supremo (Italian High Command) under General Ettore Bastico had controlled most of Axis forces in North Africa with administrative and tactical control because Rommel was under Italian Command .But Rommel himself directed the campaign. It also noted that The Panzer Army Afrika in that time was under General Georg Stumme while Rommel was absent. Regards from Jheeeeeeteegh (talk) 02:40, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually All Axis forces was under the Administrative control of Marshal Bastico including Rommel's Panzer Army Afrika. As Rommel was still under Italian command. Rommel had only tactical control of all German and Italian forces in North Africa. Best Regards from Jheeeeeeteegh (talk) 02:02, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Total reformat[edit]

Hi, everyone. I've never been in favor of the down-the-line single-column format. It gets vertiginous trying to remember where you are as you scroll. I've adopted a double-column format **within each corps**, as well as repositioning the corps to reflect geographical distribution. I hope you find this appealing. Hat note changes[edit]

We've got the superfluous brackets out of the Error: no page names specified (help). hatnotes on the Italian armies, now how do we get the <ref>s back onto the same line?? Hungrydog55 (talk) 14:14, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
