First name[edit]

Just a query, why is the first name showing the Spanish pronunciation if the name is Arabic? In fact does it even need to show any pronunciation? 86.183.80.100 (talk) 02:27, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Even though it has some ties to Arabic, the name is Spanish in origin, according to my brief research. PuppyMonkey (talk) 21:10, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Her name is presumably the feminine form of Shakir. And though her name has Arabic origins and she is half-Lebanese by descent, Shakira is from Colombia and a native Spanish speaker.
IDK what the consensus is on adding all sorts of different language pronunciations if a name/subject has a certain ethnic background, but I'm fine with keeping just the Spanish IPA. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 07:49, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hope all is well. The change I’m suggesting is Shakira’s nationality. She is Colombian and Lebanese. Her father was a Lebanese man. Her last name is Mebarak, a Lebanese last name. Shakira is proud of her Lebanese roots as we saw when she performed at Super Bowl. In 2003, Shakira said she was proud of her Lebanese roots during interview with American Press. That’s all . Thank you [1]

Not done: We already mention her Lebanese ancestry in the Early Life section. Per MOS:NATIONALITY we generally do not include ethnicity in the first sentence if it differs from the nation they were notable in. Cannolis (talk) 07:27, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest that a direct link to Shakira (album) be put back into the hatnote - it was removed when the hatnote looked like this, which was indeed excessive. Such a link is common practice for musicians with self-titled albums.

 Done I think it's important to add this distinction. Coulomb1 (talk) 19:14, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
