Issues addressed[edit]

Major overhaul of article:

  • language edited to fit wikipedia style guide and so as not to read like personal essay.
  • Third-party references added - articles from Hinduism Today and independent Vedantic Research Centre for Comparative Civilizations.
  • Direct quotes added from website and book in teachings section.

On this basis, tags have been removed. Vedanta108 (talk) 22:27, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Deletion Tag[edit]

  • I have added new independent references to the article, and removed many of the references from self-published sources.
  • I have also significantly shortened the sections based upon self-published material.

Hence the deletion and associated tags have been removed.

  • The subject is notable and HinduismToday (a highly reputable Hindu institution) describes him in a 2001 article titled "A Yogi Worth Watching" as having inspired thousands of people worldwide. Since then information on Shivarudra Balayogi's international tours have been regularly featured in Hinduism Today. See for example:

Hinduism Today, 31 March 2004.

  • Another reliable third-party source is Dr Adwaita P. Ganguly (PhD London), who is considered to be a leading scholar of Indian philosophy , Vedanta , and the lives and teachings of spiritual masters . He has published numerous books on Vedanta, Buddhism, mysticism and Subhas Chandra Bose, receiving many awards for this work. He did extensive research on Shivarudra Balayogi in 2006-7.
  • In addition, though Dr Bruce Young's books are self-published, he is an independent author.

Self-published sources may not be used in Wikipedia articles. Skyerise (talk) 22:57, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Orphan Tag[edit]

Removed. There are at least four other articles linking to this one: Jangama Dhyana, Babaji, list of Advaita teachers and Vedanta. Vedanta108 (talk) 21:05, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

  • I have restored the Meditation, Self, Spirituality and Spiritual Practice categories. Even though this article is about a person, it is clear that the person's life is so inextricably linked to meditation and spiritual practice that this is a useful way of categorizing the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Econgame (talkcontribs) 14:26, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Self-published sources[edit]

All of the sources by Young are published by himself and thus they are not reliable sources and will be removed. Skyerise (talk) 22:57, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the source: Ganguly, A., 2007, Shri Shivarudra Balayogi Maharaj: A Life of Service and Devotion has no ISBN and I cannot find it at Google books. I suspect it is also self-published. Skyerise (talk) 23:13, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
