U Thant

[edit]

The article on U Thant claims he is buried at the foot of the Shwedagon Paya. Can anyone confirm this and add something to this article? Rhomboid Man 15:59, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, on Shwedagon Paya Road near the southern approach to the stupa. Wagaung 23:42, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IPA pronunciation

[edit]

That IPA listing is very definitely NOT the pronunciation of the English language name. perhaps it should be made clear in the article header exactly what that IPA transcription is of? Rhialto 09:11, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've rearanged th IPA pronunciations to match the different titles of the pagoda: Paya and Zedi Daw. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 23:38, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Year reference

[edit]

In the history section, the sixth paragraf refer to statistics of an unknown year as 'this year', without any real reference;

According to the statistics of the Board of Trustees of the pagoda, a total of 136,579 tourists had visited the pagoda from Jan. 1 to Aug. 30 this year, up more than 40 percent correspondingly.

This will most probably become misleading and should have some kind of direct reference, or at least the actual year should be named.

Weird image caption in section "Middle premise"

[edit]

"Automatically appeared pagoda during 1980s due to seismic movement, analysts remarked." – What does that mean? -- megA (talk) 08:30, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What does "premise" even mean?

[edit]

In addition to that above mentioned strange caption, the article does not say what the Main and Middle Premises are. The word seems improperly used...Mistranslation? 108.20.52.145 (talk) 22:44, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mistranslation of the term "Ale Pyissayan". I suppose it could be translated as the Middle Precinct. The more commonly translated term is the Middle Terrace. Hybernator (talk) 23:03, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pagoda?

[edit]

Is this a pagoda? I thought it was a stupa. I thought the East-Asian pagoda-style (vertical, multi-storied) sanctuaries never took hold in Thailand or Burma, where the domed stupas overwhelm.--Paracel63 (talk) 20:58, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
