2007[edit]

As Siddapur (a taluk place) near Sirsi in Karwar District is the larger than Siddapur in Kodagu & it has monopoly on the name of Siddapur. I feel if any one intrested in starting a new topic on Siddapur needs to have an additional tag for their new topic on siddapur.

2014[edit]

PuttuHegde (talk) 18:25, 3 February 2014 (UTC)We need to continue with separate pages for Siddapur town and Siddapur Taluk since both the pages represent different geographic areas. Do not merge these pages as Siddapur Taluk encompasses Siddapur town .[reply]

Article name[edit]

This article was moved from the previous Siddapura taluk with the claim that it was a spelling correction. This is not a valid reason in terms of place names, they are not dictionary words. Usage shows that the original name 'Siddapura taluka' has wider usage in terms of web hits by 1.28 million to 475 thousand, and on google books by 3430 to 2270. Hence and in correspondence with the town, it sohuld be renamed. Imc (talk) 10:52, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Siddapur talukSiddapura taluka – The most common name, as shown in the web results, see above in this page. Relisted. BDD (talk) 16:46, 21 May 2014 (UTC) Imc (talk) 19:11, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support as nominator. Imc (talk) 19:13, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose As explained on the Talk page of "Siddapur, Uttara Kannada", Google search is not reliable in this case as there are many places in India with name Siddapur / Siddapura. Google search will always include closely matching words and cannot return accurate results in terms as Siddapur/a. Do not move this page. Pdheg Talk 20:19, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're suggesting again that we should take your word for it instead? Imc (talk) 17:47, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Imc: I am now convinced that you are causing vandalism because of lack of knowledge about places in India. Search for "Siddapur" on this government website and you will see the below list of towns/villages in India.

When you have so many places with similar names, the Google search will not return accurate results.PdhegTalk to me 21:07, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Try these - Siddapura taluka, web search, no restrictions 415k hits, versus Siddapur taluk, web search, no restrictions, 52k. Or it can be restricted by enclosing the search terms in quotes, which will reduce them but they are still in a similar ratio.
Yes, there are a lot of places called Siddapur / Siddapura / Siddpur’s about. That is why sometimes a disambiguation needed, this can be done by adding ‘Karnataka’ or the district name. There is only one taluk by this name, at least in Karnataka, so this article’s name is unique (if there is another Siddapur taluk elsewhere in the world it does not come up in search results). So the results show the general common usage. You have produced one Indian government list that shows the town (not the taluk) referred to as Siddapur. Here are some that show that government usage is as mixed as others, both for the town and the taluk – [1], [2]. Imc (talk) 10:15, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
