Timeline and notes[edit]

  • He was the owner of two mines Ynys and Rhydydefaid in Clyne Valley, Swansea.
  • Morris was one of the businessmen involved in the development of the Swansea and Mumbles Railway.
  • In 1768, Morris decided to build a planned village for the workers of his copper factories, this village developed into the town of Morriston.
  • He was also responsible for the financing of the building of Morris Castle.
  • In 1775, Morris built Clasemont to be his home near Morriston.
  • John Morris was made a baronet in April 1806
  • Sir John Morris had as son who was also called John Morris (who became 2nd Baronet of Clasemont).
  • Sir John Morris died on February 24, 1855
